Maybe one day we fans will have a contented look on our faces when we arrive at Selhurst Park or wherever, when is another issue.
Leicester winning the title with only 7,000 more seats and Burnley finishing 7th with 5,000 less probably means it won’t make a huge amount of difference anyway. Watford and Bournemouth are also good Prem sides with smaller grounds.

For a small-medium sized club we have performed about as well as we could have hoped. The idea we will challenge for Top 8 regularly even with the new stand is fanciful. There is no rush.

I disagree he has talked a good game and has at times overshared with quite a lot of sell included. It's his most jordanesque moment if little to nothing is actually delivered. It's been slow progress if nothing else.

Now as much as i would love to bicker with you on minutiae, we'll have to agree to disagree on this.

I am not sure that's what people expect. It's also a case of being careful what you wish for at times. However you cannot realistically argue that it isn't a little restricting having the two premium side stands so unfit for purpose. They have poor views, poor facilities and are uncomfortable. It's hard to encourage new fans to come along when the choice of available seasons ticket seats are odds and sods in stands that offer poor value.

Steve Parish keeps mentioning the new stand when he doesn't really have to (eg he mentions it in his programme notes sometimes) so I take from that he is still determined to achieve it. For one thing, Guy Wickett wouldn't still be employed by the club if there wasn't stuff to do with the project going on behind the scenes

I think SP has come in for a lot of criticism on this thread for issues that were created years ago when Bloye sold land to Sainsbury’s, making it almost impossible for every subsequent owner to develop the ground into a Premier League stadium without major logistical problems.

If it was all in the hands of the club, I’m sure improvements would have been made by now, but it isn’t!
Without the cooperation of Sainsbury’s it’s going to be very difficult to move ahead on the plans. There’s probably a lot going on behind the scenes, but I’m not sure what fans expect SP to do. If Sainsbury’s won’t come on board with the project we are stuck.

If Steve wasn’t putting forward stadium ideas, I’m sure fans would be accusing him of a lack of ambition. He can’t win either way.

Exactly. And to compare him to Jordan? Ridiculous! For starters, Parish has brought in more investment, which is needed for the stadium. Secondly, there is planning permission submitted. Why would he, and also the club, waste money on planning permission and plans just to create "hot air"?. It's a silly suggestion.

Plucky Little Bournemouth have shown that stadium capacity means very little these days. They've put their new ground plans on hold and are happy to throw TV money and cash from their owner (formerly Russian, now I believe a British citizen) at their team. Maybe that will only take them so far, but bigger stadiums don't mean much by themselves. Ask Everton. Or Sunderland ...

Difference between what Palace make from bigger attendances/match day income is equivalent to what you gain in TV money by finishing a couple of places higher in table. So their total income based on current table will be very similar to ours. Their wage bill is a fair bit lower which enables them to splurge on a £20m player when we cannot really do so.

You can argue that capacity doesn't equate to success either way, I don't think the two are related at all.

Successful recent teams have the biggest capacities in the country bar Leicester.

Shit teams in terms of on the field have got big capacities aka Newcastle, Sunderland, Leeds, Villa etc.

The trick is getting right on the field and off the field at the same time and a lot of frustration from Palace fans at the moment that there is no news on the ground is because there is also very little transfer activity going on.

I think this is sticking your head in the sand.

Look at the cost of players and wages. To even be competitive in that safeish pack that finishes 8th to 12th requires more finances than we currently generate. We have had to bin off five players from the second squad to eek out just enough cash to sign two maybe three players on loan!! That tells you how brasic we are and up against FFP we are. SP has said time and time again he wants to get about an extra £20M a year out of the stadium because that would enable us to sign three £15M or £20M pound players and pay the wages of one or two of them. Or even sign one £30M pound and £15M player. The reason this works is amortisation of transfer fees in the accounts i.e. spreading the fee out over the course of the transfer. I actually think one of the reasons we've started doing four and five year contracts is because it costs us less each year on the books.

The stadium and academy work is critical to not getting into the mess we are in right now again.

Yes, all of that, plus having a massive great corporate main stand helps attract sponsorship, investment and players. I know there are occasional exception like Villa and Sunderland at the moment, but especially in London that will make a big difference for us.

^this. Just having toilets to use before going in the ground (other than Sainsburys) would be nice.

I'd like to see Crystals reopen too. The fan zone just doesn't cut it without facilities like they have at West Brom. The old stand corporates have the Glaziers bar so I guess they are the priority. The Arthur being the Cinderella stand as always.

hear hear! The fanzone really isn't an option with no toilets and open to the elements. The Whitehorse wind tunnel is simply no good either.

Mind you I stopped feeling obliged to spend my £ at palace owned outlets on match days, as soon as they started giving loyalty points for tickets with retail and refreshment purchases. The club no longer commands my loyalty in that way based on this cynical approach.

So, as I understand it, the two sticking points are still 1. Finding new homes / houses for the people currently living in the houses behind the main stand and b) Getting approval from Sainsburys. Do we know (reliably) what the status is on both of these? And what about approval from the Mayor's office. Has this happened? thanks.

Chances are [B]Costello[/B in 2/3 years from now we will still be asking these types of questions and keep wondering when will we ever see progress to this stadium saga.
Oh well for now the dream continues, and some day we may all rejoice of seeing a NEW STAND spring up.

I'd love for Crystals to open again. Always used it. Was quite big, TV screens everywhere to watch the early match, could have a piss and was warm. I go into the fan zone, but probably for about 30 mins max and often only 15 mins. It's just not conducive with winter time and no toilets. Why on earth can't they at least hire a Portakabin each home game. Can't cost must, surely. Is the nightclub still used in Crystals or is it now completely shut down?

It astonishes me that the WH lane doesn't have a lounge of some sort allocated to it give the vast majority of fans in there are young kids and probably OAP too with their grandchildren. At least try and block off each end to reduce the wind tunnel effect which can be opened and closed.
