That'll teach me to read to the end of the thread before posting!

You're right, Shearer is clearly a big fan.

Thanks for your erudite contribution. I meant his hate for Palace, of course, which is well documented.

He may like Wan-Bissaka but he can't stand us. Was careful to exclude Zaha from his praise.

Perhaps you should bone up on body language and facial expression instead of just considering his words.

He'd like to see Wan-Bissaka at a "big club" and in his book we aren't entitled to have players of this quality.

Yep, that has happened with just about every international we have produced,

We’ll always be a ‘nursery’ club, Norwich are another. We produce players who then move on to bigger clubs. It doesn’t always work out, in fact I’m struggling to think of one of our academy products who really has fulfilled their dreams. We just have to deal with it and move on. Until we have a few seasons in the Champions League, this situation won’t change.

Southgate might call him up - as a reserve for Alexander-Arnold. Henderson won't have it any other way.

There's also Trippier & Walker to consider.
AWB would find it a lot easier to get in if he were a L.B.

I've often thought that Shearer hated Palace after listening to him on MoTD. Any idea why?

Him and Parish had a bit of a grumble at each other on Twitter regarding Zaha a couple of years back, it probably put his nose out of joint. He's probably also a bit resentful that we do better than Newcastle...he undoubtedly sees us as being below them in stature.

I think this is about it. I think he also has some sort of prejudice that "big" players should be at "big" clubs and that the likes of us are spoiling his nice world by having players like Zaha and Wan-Bissaka when they ought to be at City, United etc. The thought that Zaha llves it at Palace and had a horrid time at United and wouldn't go back probably does his box in. After all surely he "should" aspire to joining in a club that plays at a higher level than Palace are "allowed" to aspire to? Who knows, then he might even be "entitled" to go down in the box when defenders "complement" him on his skill.

Shearer turned Man United down to play for his boyhood club. He should understand

Apart from Clyne being an England regular and Vic Moses winning a premier winners medal amongst other stuff?

There is probably some substance in this. There is also the Pardew connection.

Shearer is as passionate in support for Newcastle as most of us are about Palace. He briefly managed Newcastle which saw their relegation from the Premier League. After Newcastle were promoted under Hughton who was subsequently sacked as Newcastle struggled, he like a considerable number of Newcastle fans were dismayed to see Ashley appoint Pardew as manager. Pardew, despite early success, soon became very unpopular at St James's and then came to Selhurst.

Shearer's acerbic motd punditry on Newcastle and Pardew's management carried over to Pardew's time at Palace and Zaha may have ended up a convenient target for his regular carping once Pardew left Palace.

Shearer has become Lineker's 'co star'. I won't be sorry when his time is up.

Victor Moses has a Europa League Winners medal, Premier League winners medal, FA Cup Winners medal, Africa Cup winners medal.
Sounds pretty dreamy to me!

He's like the parent that tries to relive their youth through their children because their own life didn't pan out how it was "supposed" to.

Eg: turned down a bigger club (Man Utd) for his boyhood dream of playing for his home town club (Newcastle) with a fanciful idea he would go on to winner major honours. He won nothing and deep down maybe regrets it a little bit.
So now his view is you should always maximise your potential and honours at the biggest club that wants you and oushed that view on everyone else.

Trippier maybe. Walker is over-hyped, mainly because of who he plays for. AWB is better, imho of course.

He also turned us down allegedly when at Southampton and Wright moved on.

Think as others have commented he looks down on us and the talent we have
