You have to have the frame or genetics to cope with it, so not necessarily a like for like comparison.

He has my full support. Was great just before his injury, has worked well to get back, and has since coming back a great assist and a very important goal.

He didn't play a part yesterday, but we need a large squad, and hopefully he will be able to push on and become a real asset to this club again.

There's no dispute that he's a good player, even for the strange people who say things like "He's stealing a living".

To add to your stats, he's also missed 96 games through injury.

I hope rumours about another very serious injury are fallacious. What sort of people can have a go at him for being a drain on palace resources when he faces career ending injuries.
The delight on his face after the knee in against Tottenham was fantastic. Players are not inhuman financial assets. I know that concern for others is not part of the current brutal government philosophy but a young man who could have his carer ended should not be subject to some of the above comments

In his press conference RH said he had a fully fit squad bar Souare and Kouyate, but that two players needed tests on Saturday to see it they were ok for the match due to minor issues. One was assumed to be Tomkins, someone then claimed in the match day thread Wickham was injured without any back up, so there could be the assumption he had a minor knock - or then again, we could have just had too many fit players for 18 match day places. Either way, nothing stated by the club other than RHs comments on Friday.

He is (or certainly was for Fulham) injured.

The info was from someone who works at the training ground. They also said Benteke would be starting.

Connor looks fine now imo, but pre big injury, look at him. That’s a gym bro’s body, not a top level footballer’s.

I'd heard from someone who did some Physio work with him a couple of years back, when he was getting lots of niggly injuries, that it was caused by Sunderland trying to make him trimmer, and his body not being able to adapt to it.

Explain to me why you believe the two are mutually incompatible.

Footballers essentially need to be somewhere between a distance runner and a sprinter. Will run 10k a match, but with many short, high speed intervals. High lean muscle mass for bursts of speed, but slim and agile.
Here’s Usain Bolt:

Here’s Leonard Patrick Komon, the fastest man in a 10k road race:

Where does Connor fit in? Never mind me explaining to you, show me some top level footballers with bodies as bulky as that. There’s some in the lower leagues, but I can’t think of any top flight ones. Luckily though, it seems like he’s slimmed down now, looks lean and in top shape.

He is, to all intents and purposes, as close to being an old fashioned number 9 as the modern game will allow. Slim and agile is not his forte and that has nothing to do with his muscle mass.

If you are that type of player, having some bulk is clearly going to help you put yourself about.

Not at the top level, those days are gone. Look at strikers known for being strong, such as Diego Costa, Mitrovic, Dzeko, Ibrahimovic: They’re all fairly lean, and far leaner than Connor is in that photo at that. Or look at how much Lukaku has struggled since he’s packed on too much mass.

Whether those days are gone or not is entirely irrelevant. He is what he is - unless he (or the coaching staff) tries to re-invent his game.

Clearly he has reinvented himself, because he’s nowhere near as bulky now!

He was agile and lean at Sunderland, hence spending half his career there playing out wide.

I suspect you will find that there isn't a great deal of difference in his size.
