While I appreciate that Roy is an old school gent, I would much rather that he properly ranted & raved about the ref last night every now & then even if it means picking up a charge. By saying what he said (or didn't say), he's pretty much giving the impression that he's OK with it all.

At least Pardew, Allardyce & Warnock - with all their very many individual & collective faults - would have all had their say.

It would get them know where apart from a ban......

Roy handled it well I thought. He got his point across. So I will rant for him:

Mr Marriner from what I have seen from just the highlights has had a shocker. Romeou should have gone for challenge on Andros in the first half, someone else should have gone for the challenge on Andros before the goal, Valery should have been booked for the challenge on Wilf but Marriner thought Valery won the ball and gives a corner - knowhere near winnIng the ball. The challenge on Tomkins in the box from a player who shouldn’t have been on the pitch, he literally just jumped into him clearly not going for the ball, he didn’t even look.

It is not good enough in today’s day and age.

The club should put together a “Just the Fouls on Zaha” highlights video - last night was astonishing

As for Marriner, can't stand him. Like fatso Moss, he has this arrogant air about him and as a ref, he is just poor.
It was the worst refereeing performance in our of our games for some time - both Romeu and Stephens should have been red-carded and half their team should have been on yellow, but weren't. Roy is too nice - he should have gone ballistic about it. It did have the air of Moss' performance at home to Huddersfield last season. To be fair to Moss though, he's much better since he lost some weight - he just used to jog around the edge of the centre circle so could never see what was going on.

Mariner has never given anything for us when Wilf has been assaulted its as if he has a blind spot when Wilf on the ball

He is a ******* disgrace. Allowing Romeu to commit three fouls in the space of 5 minutes and not book him. Marriner is a total ****.

Romeu actually grinned after the last one. He was so relieved to have got nothing for it.
All it did was embolden them to carry on like it. They know Marriner would do nothing.

Seemed to miss some very easy decisions last night but the mistake of giving W-P the throw then escalated into the nightmare situation.

I agree Zaha should not clap him but actually thought the first yellow was harsh as clearly just handbags and W-P equally in the wrong.

The Stephens challenge is right in front of him and whilst I think we have gone a bit soft nowadays, it is a red card offence.

I am led to believe that Roy is perfectly capable of ranting and raving, but he controls himself in interviews - which I think is to be applauded. The last thing we want is a return to the constant bleating of Neil Warnock.

Surely only 1 of 2 things can happen regarding that challenge, especially as it has been highlighted on MotD.

1. Marriner didn't see it
Questionable how not but maybe he didn't, in which case FA retrospectively ban Stephens for 3 games

2. Marriner did see it
In which case if he sees that and doesn't give a red card he is not doing his job and should be sacked because that endangers the safety of players!

To some up Marriner's performance: Romeu gets through the match without receiving even one yellow.

Absolutely abysmal performance from Marriner.

He didn't even give a free-kick, so either his sight is failing, or he is incompetent

It is exactly the sort of incident retrospective action is designed to deal with.

Which means absolutely **** all will happen.

Romeu should've got a yellow for hacking down Townsend on the edge of the area in the lead-up to our goal and a yellow for assaulting Tomkins in the penalty area alone. Throw in the other 4/5 fouls he committed and he could've been sent off at least twice.

To not even book him defies belief.

Agreed. And Roy made it very clear in his post match interview that he wasn’t at all happy with what when on. But he did it in a measured, sensible way.

It really is a difficult one to call as to where the blame lies, because as fans we are bound to be biased towards our own player and place the blame solely on the Ref in this case Mariner as the villian, when in reality the culprit is always the instigator.
But then it is hideous when players like Wilf as we saw last night who constantly get hacked down without the protection they deserve, and this is where Mariner has the finger pointed at HIM for refusing to take the action he should have taken, which would then have stopped it instantly. Could VAR be allowed to intervene next season to help the ref in his decision making? as far too many of these "thugs" on the pitch get away with it as it constantly gets missed by the ref.
However, as Wilf himself admitted his reaction towards the ref was unacceptable and he was deserveably sent off, but when are the FA authorities going to realise they have it in their own powers to stop it by instructing Ref's to take appropiate action to stop what in effect in certain "tackles" is thuggery on the pitch, and it wont be before time.

The booking and second yellow for dissent were some of the few decisions Marriner managed to get right.
