I wouldn’t call the penalty a howler. Antonio did very well to muscle past PVA (who should have done better) and managed to engineer the collision. I would still prefer a keeper who has the confidence to come and commit than one who stays on his line hesitating.

I like the look of Guaita and have no doubts he will be a great addition in time but we must not go over the top with just how good he really is as there has been little to suggest he is outstanding. I would say currently its clear to see he is still "settling in" also there seems to be a little uncertainty about his play at times, maybe that is fully understandable for a foreign newcomer settling into unfamilar surroundings and believe its next season when settled in is when we will see the best of him.

Strange how the usuals insist Wayne is better, when he clearly isn't. Poor positioning, bad decision making, lack of communication & slow distribution is not something Vinny suffers from, so those elements are an obvious improvement.

It would be nice to have a GK that was more confident against penalties though. Gabor was probably the last, wasn't he? Maybe Vinny just needs some grey joggers on.
That's not actually true though. He mis-judged the bounce of the ball against Leicester, he mis-punched against Southampton and he gave away a penalty yesterday.

I see those and still don't think he should be dropped as he has done very well apart from those and, in at least 2 of them, I think there were reasons why they happened.

Just like when WH was in goal mistakes happen and, perhaps, we should be a little more forgiving to our keepers.

Good post. I prefer Guaita to Hennessey, but some of the praise on here seems excessive, in the same way as the criticism of Hennessey was. No doubt he's a good keeper, and almost certainly our best. But some people seem to be banging on that he's been absolutely sensational for us, which isn't the case. He's made some good saves. He's made a few errors. I think we need to give him more time before we form any real judgments.

All these mistakes, yet the only games he conceded 2 goals or more, was Man City, which we won.
The only game he’s played all 90 in, and we’ve lost is Chelsea.
He’s made match winning saves, and has looked the most assured keeper we’ve had in a while.

Yes, he could have done better yesterday but he was put in a horrible position by PVA.

If you think he’s been anything other than a huge success for us so far, then you’re deluded.

Huge success is pushing it to be fair. In time he might be a huge success, but heís only played a handful of games. Time will tell. I worry about his communication which seems non existent. Twice yesterday and a couple of times against Fulham there was either no comms or miscommunication between him and defenders. Sure this will get better in time though. Oh, and his kicking is shit

Yep, I agree. Good signing that has improved our squad and first 11. But hasn't been as brilliant as some make out. Fabianski for example, is a huge success.

Guaita is the better keeper, he is more confident coming for the high ball , and the defence seem more at ease.
Unlucky with the penalty , PVA came unstuck with Antonio, and he just nudged the ball past the on rushing keeper .
He also saved us with 2 one on ones prior to that .

His first game he played he made a match winning save.

As an aside, due to the way he conducts himself in matches I.e. positioning, awareness etc heís not to had to make match winning saves.

The best keepers donít need to be making MOTM performances. They need to regularly make 7/10 performances.

The only real shocker heís had for us so far was in his first 10 minutes.

Yes he needs to do it for a long period of time, but since coming in he has been very good, and the results and stats back that up.

So he has cost us two points,

But how many has he saved for us? Probably a lot more.

I also think he looks capable of saving a penalty or two. I know Noble scored and sent him the wrong way but look how far he got across to the other post.

Look, letís be honest. After what weíve had to put up with between the sticks over the last few years getting Neville Southall out of retirement would have looked outstanding.

A number of clean sheets and decent saves means Vicente is the rightful number one and you canít blame people for being excited weíve got a keeper who actually knows how to play in the position.
