I’ve never felt that dreaded knot in my stomach that we’d get relegated , unlike most other seasons we’ve been in this league . I have faith in a good experienced manager , respect him and he’s a good trustworthy guy to boot .

7th place is still a big haul for most clubs outside the top six and Everton. It gets you into Europe but then having to start the season so early seems to have a negative impact on the club going forward. There will be other factors but Southampton, West Ham and Burnley have all struggled since qualifying for Europe.

I would rather we won a cup.

Not sure I follow this as if we won a cup we’d be in Europe surely ?

Now getting bored with this, criticism of our playing style and who gets picked is now the in topic. Roy has experience and knows how to get results, which is all that really matters.
We are never going to challenge the top six or maybe eight as we just haven't the financial muscle they have and never will have. That is why we have all the talk of AWB and Zaha leaving, as we know we are not a big club.
Far too much Logic in there "1968"for the Roy Hodgson knockers to accept, so many seem to think we should be sitting comfortably as a Top Ten club possibly without realising we are not as good allround a team as some may think. But importantly refusing to accept for nearly TWO Years we have been without a Striker capable of scoring goals and we know NO Goals equals NO Wins hence why we have been near the bottom until recently. So under those circumstances RH has done a decent job in fairness, but yes human nature says we would still like to see him do better.
As you say what Roy brought is stability, ok Not the exciting attacking style some expect but a very similar approach to Sean Dyche at Burnley, who gets the best of what he has at his disposal similar to what RH does as they both work to a system suited to what they have at their disposal, and in the case of CPFC the priority should always be remaining in the lucrative premiership.
Maybe if he had the Liverpool Forward line at his disposal at Palace then his attacking approach would be different, as you rightly point out he does not have the funds to bring in the players that is needed to change our fortunes around, and if he can then the likelyhood would be needing to sell stars like Zaha, AWB and Sakho to raise funds to buy, is that the best way forward in having to selling your best so as to strengthen? NO, but it is the Palace way hence why we will never progress.
I also feel frustrated at Roy's cautious approach at times, but accept all be it reluctantly if the Board does not fully support their manager in the transfer market as in the case of RH then we cant expect him to be a miracle worker, so compromise and understanding is needed from fans.
Since arriving at Palace Roy Hodgson has done a solid job, who can forget last season when all seemed lost yet he saved us from certain relegation, and this season working with an under strength squad along with long term injuries to vital players, and with strikers struggling to score goals yet we now sit comfortably in 12th position is some achievement if we are being honest and fair.
So instead of slamming RH as some on here do we should embrace the man and be privilaged to have him at the helm, its only when he leaves and a new man comes in and if he is NOT fully supported by the Board then maybe we will appreciate the task RH had to work under and the solid job he has done.

But Roy doesn’t get the best out of what he has , a more balanced view is needed. Roy needs balance himself in the form of a dynamic new coach with some new ideas and a willingness to learn.

So where do you see Palace's rightful position in the table? when you dont have strikers that score goals and you are unable to buy, hence why we are where we are in the table. With that in mind RH has done well simply keeping us out of the relegation area and you need to give him credit for that, it's not a question of taking a balanced view but more about being realistic of expectations whilst NOT having a goalscorer.
I would agree we need to bring in a new coach with the potential of taking over when Roy's contract is up but WHO? is the issue, i have said before an option i like is to bring in David Wagner initially to work alongside Roy and then he takes over sooner rather than later around christmas time? and possibly move RH upstairs.
But dont forget without the Board forking out to strengthen then regardless to who we get will make little difference and that is the issues Roy has had to work with and with that in mind has done well, or would you rather we play exciting open football but get relegated due to being unable to score goals? or play cagey football within our limitations but stay up as we have done, very similar to what Sean Dyche has done at Burnley and i dont read many condemening his tactics, but to help he does have goalscores which makes a difference.

The whole discussion feels a bit obsolete. As Hodgson has (more or less) kept us up for another season and won't be sacked and nor do I believe he'll retire. And when all is said and done (i.e. casting aside all the concerns about his management and home form etc), he does deserve to keep his job on the basis that he has helped maintain our 'premier league' status. As it's a tough thing to achieve.

That is of course as subjective an opinion as everyone else has. Who is to say if the team could do any better with another manager?

Not unconvinced this entire thread will be rendered irrelevant when Roy retires after the Bournemouth game. Be careful what you wish for people.

What gets me more than anything is we have become so boring to watch it’s mind numbing. Being Palace we have to earn our right but to play how we are without any spark , and miss out on 2 great Cup opportunities it’s just ended up being a gutless season.

This is less the Hodgeson out thread more the 100 excuses thread.

Lets consider the Spuds game, across the board they have better players than us, we can't go and play open football as Pardew did we simply get slaughtered as Pardew's teams probably would have. Most teams in the bottom half do the same, defend and try to hang on into the second half. That part went well but what have we gone there to do. To keep a losing score down or to find a way to nick a win.

Roy made his subs with 10 mins to go, its not enough time to win a game. They could have been phased in from 20mins out, he gave us no chance of doing anything in that game.

Goals aren’t only scored by forwards . Our set plays and corners remain poor , with little innovation and few goals - a managers duty I think . Wickham scores against Spurs and hasn’t had a look in . Why cant Roy get beneteke firing it’s a managers job to get the best out of his players. Lucky we have Wilf , Luka and three great defenders , and Huddersfield and Fulham

The op has demanded the heads of at least 2 managers more than a year before they happened. the traffic he has received on these threads has been ridiculous. I dont recall seeing him on any other threads. It is time he was called out for the narcisstic troll he is and drummed off this site. He is no fan by my definition
