[QUOTE=exiledeagle1;14591202]A great vote of confidence by Roy for Connor Wickham....NOT.[/QUOTE

Iíd be looking for a new club based on that if I was Wickham. Very disrespectful by Roy and also the wrong time to introduce a player who hasnít had a touch of the ball because of injury for nearly three months. Not sure what was going through his head there. Unless, as I think, he has to play him contractually if he is fit.

He didn't but after being a big critic of him in the past I actually thought there was some hope after he came on yesterday. Hopefully he can now play for his place and get back in by taking a couple of chances. I do think though Roys subs do not bode well for Connor Wickhams confidence.

Think we saw where Connor sits in Roys thoughts when Sorloth got 70mins against Grimsby and a few days later went out on loan. Why on earth was Connor not started in that game. Don't think Roy rates him. In his post match interview last night he said something like we've got Benteke back now and Wickham is still around (paraphrasing). Roys had a few demotivating comments about the players now. Might be reading too much into it but didnt look good for Connor yesterday seeing Benteke come on. At least put both on when we are chasing the game.

After the Chelsea game, when RH was interviewed, I'm sure I heard when when the interviewer said something along the lines 'Well, at least Conor Wickham came on, after a long time out and made a bit of a difference' and Roy's response was something like 'I'm sorry, but he didn't' and it was obvious he didn't want to discuss the matter, any further.
I was a bit gobsmacked TBH. I suppose Roy was being honest but not something a player would want to hear ?

It was out of order and inexplicable. Roy's an irritable old tosser sometimes, all it reveals is his frustrations with his own shortcomings - of which there have been many this season.

Disagree with most on here. Made sense having Wickham on the bench in case of injury in first 60 mins or so. He is fit but not match sharp. Benteke has only been out for a couple of months and 15 mins makes perfect sense. Benteke did very well when he came on and will be able to do more next time. None of this means Roy doesn't rate Wickham long term but right now he has looked off the pace which isn't surprising.

Also giving Sorloth one last try v Grimsby made sense and also wasn't disrespectful to Wickham. Had he taken the chance things may have worked out differently.

I honestly believe any striker is going to massively struggle the way our team is set up at the moment. Even Harry Kane would struggle to get goals in a team with 3 workmanlike midfielders and 2 wingers with zero support through the middle.

Benteke is certainly not equipped to be a lone striker, he has no pace, average control and moderate skill on the ball, his chief asset is his aerial ability but isolated on your own against two big centre halves it's not easy to do anything he really needs someone up there with him to play with.

I honestly feel 2 wingers is a waste of time unless you have strength in the middle. You might as well have one and a workman like midfielder the other side who just crosses the ball rather than try and beat a man ala Beckham. With a solid midfielder on the right you can more afford a more attacking central midfielder/number 10 to play in and around the striker.

The amount of goals we have scored at home is appalling. It's not helped by a woeful record from set pieces where we concede loads and score very few leaving our scoring options very scant indeed. Wilf winning a penalty or a worldy from Andros or a fluke seem to be the only sources, it's clear there is something structurally wrong with our attacking play.

The root of the problem lies in us not signing any attacking midfielders/Number 10's since Chamakh and an over reliance on two wingers which leave us short of attacking play in the middle.
Thats why all our strikers struggle and we get virtually no return from them, its highly likely that even if we signed a Tosun or Batshisui or someone similar they'd suffer the same fate is Benteke unless there is some structural change in the team.

Iíd start Wickham over Benteke every time, for work rate and endeavour alone. Benteke is a shadow of his former self, a passive donkey.

Connor is more of a threat from distance as well as not being bad in the air. When you look at what Benteke brings to the table of late, I know who I'd prefer to see up top. But it does certainly appear that Wickhams days appear to be numbered if Roy sticks about for another season.

Based on that substitute appearance? Hardly a way to judge his comeback.

If Bentekes form of last season continues it will still take him 7 more full seasons before his and Wickhams strike rate are equal. But of course, Wickham is the better player.

With 12 months left for both Wickham and Benteke in the summer, it's possible that we'll look to move the pair of them on come the end of the season

We won't be able to give them away unless they stay fit and actually score some ******* goals.
