Assists
Expected goals
Completed passes

All ways of replacing observation, thought and insight with simple numerical comparisons which allow decent commentators to be replaced with idiots.

Errors leading to Goal: Tomkins 2 - Wayne, Luka and Jules all score 1 (Ward is shown as 0 which I don't understand)

Aerial Battles Lost: Tomkins 91 - Ayew 90 (he only won 32)
I am pretty sure Dann had a howler of a error leading to a goal .

On the fantasy league,Wilf got the assist for the own goal, but not for Michy's first goal,i suppose because it took a deflection, which i thought was strange.

The first two are subjective and you would need to ask our opponents. Wilf would certainly be up there.

The last stat I saw for most fouled player had Wilf just behind Eden Hazard.

Yep Benteke

There are assists and assists. Wilf’s two on Sunday were superb. Certainly the Townsend goal which was a great individual effort given the distance run and the two attempts to foul him.

An assist because someone fouls you in the box or a cross from a corner is more questionable.

Stats in any field of work are invaluable but a danger to making any coherent analysis in the hands of idiots.

That’s why people who know anything about stats don’t just use assists. For example, expected assists. If a player’s expected assists are far higher than his actual assists, it can tell you/confirm what you already know about the striker being badly out of form and not even getting into the position to finish. There’s also things like xg chain and xg build up play, which measure how much a player contributes to the move before the goal and assist. Could be a dribble or pass. Raw ‘chances created’ stats can be useful too.

Basically, you can’t pick and choose a couple of stats to evaluate a player. You need to look at a wide range of them to get a full picture, in conjunction with actually watching the player with your eyes.

The apperances one is also a bit flawed.

Townsend down as 38 appearances though a few were brief sub appearances (As all our sub appearances are). Luka on the other hand was only one of three players in the prem league (Mee - Burnley, Coady - Wolves) to play every minute of every game. Quite an astonishing acheivement for a centre mid, fitness wise if nothing else.

Like the run and pass that set up Wilf for the penalty against Arsenal you mean?

Pretty good forgettable memory you have there

Expected goals for 50.64 actual 51
Expected goals against 52.8 actual 53
Expected points 51.93 actual 49

That would have left is in 10th place as they had Watford on expected points of 46 (actual 50) and West Ham expected points of 43.72 (actual 52).

Clearly all mumbo jumbo although they had Brighton being relegated instead of Cardiff.

PS you can check out individual players on this site

West Ham outperforming their expected points by so much might be to do with Fabianski having a ridiculous, prime De Gea esque season (who the presenter even highlighted as an example of an anomaly in the video).

There is a significant difference between those two stats, hardly 'almost' the same. Of course you have to recognise that Wilf plays for a weaker side but I think you are drawing a slightly false conclusion from those particular stats.

Regarding the assist stat, I also don't think you get them if you drive the ball into the area and a defender turns it in for an own goal, though I think you should.
