Didn't Sorloth rupture his knee ligaments last weekend? He won't be going anywhere if so. This means we're stuck with two crocked strikers with our other options being Benteke and Ayew (if we sign him for £4m a reported).

Can't see this as good news.

Hopefully he gets game time and scores goals for us. Natural finisher. If he comes good he will be worth a lot of money.

Bizarre decision. He is chronically injured and can hardly train over consecutive days according to Roy.

Surely getting players like Connor off the wage books would be a priority?

Anyway, nice we've stuck by him, but this tells you a lot about how much money Roy will be given to spend this summer i.e. less than bugger all.

Totally agree, people on here said that Glenn Murray would never be the same player.
They were right, he came back better.

I wasn't expecting that! 14 league games in 3 seasons is enough to get a new contract. I was always a fan and we don't know the details of the contract but it seems bizarre and massive gamble.

Just wondering about the timing of this announcement.

The inference seems to be: sorry lads, it's going to be another close season on a shoestring budget. Don't get your hopes up.

I think we knew that didn't we the moment our finances were released and we made a loss. Unless we sell we won't be investing massively anywhere. Loans seem more likely again don't they.

If you have a contract for another 12 months, you're unlikely to accept a contract for longer that isn't on the same (or better) terms. So it's unlikely to be a 'pay as you play' contract, I'd have thought.

Also, don't take anything a manager says in a press conference as gospel (e.g. he can hardly train for two consecutive days etc.)

Alternatively, if we try to move him on, how much would we be able to get, compared with capitalising on the recovery work that has been done since the original injury? Compare that with the cost of finding a replacement; I'd suggest a replacement would be more costly and in a Palace set-up, untested.

Maybe a ruse to make a buyer think he is over his injuries.

Benteke looks fit again and I'd say moves better than before his injury. With the time and focus of 21st Century physiotherapy and other body dynamic studies, it's possible to restructure the muscular frame of the body and alter personal habits to cut down factors that promote injury. Wickham will be well motivated to try new things after all his time out.

One thing's for sure; on his day, Wickham fits the system we play very well. He has as much physical presence as Benteke, is more mobile and aggressive and shoots superbly. If he is fit enough to play matches and even 90% of his former self, Wickham is a bigger asset than Benteke and Ayew, except his staying is fee-free and wages surely sensible considering the risk he poses. The med staff obviously think at least an impact sub role is feasible for him and how much would we pay for a player able to do that in fees and wages?

Keeping Wickham is nowhere near as daft as it seems, IMHO.

The player has signed a contract before breaking up for the summer, there really is nothing to read in it apart from Connor is staying and that should be good news.

I didn't know Hodgson had said that about his training.

Maybe he is on say 60% of his wages with bigger bonuses. he now has 3 years of money guaranteed compared to one so it would be better terms.

We have given out a few contracts extensions since promotion they have turned out to be bad decisions. Lets hope this isn't another one. On form I think Wickham is a top player.

Maybe he is, but he needs to be eased back to match fitness slowly (hence the short sub appearance at the end of the season)?

Yes I know we've been there before with CW, but here's hoping, as on his day he's a useful option up front.

That might make sense for him (and, I hope, for us!)

Yep, I'm reading between the lines there. Looking for coded messages. Something, anything.

But would add that it isn't good news, in my opinion, because it means a) we are banking on a chronically injured striker and b) we do not have funds to replace him or to improve the squad.

The optimism about Connor overcoming his injury problems is hugely misplaced, based on all the evidence.

It's good news for Connor, and I'm glad we've been so supportive, and I do hope he makes a comeback, but there is a tidal wave of evidence to the contrary.

I struggle to see the logic behind this think, given Parish himself said that Sorloth was a player bought that we can develop.

Too many people writing him and Wickham off, IMO

Totally agree with you. I heard one the reasons for so many injuries is that he kept over doing it in his recovery which led to a vicious circle. Iím sure the medical team would have been consulted over a new contract renewal.

Always liked him as a player and he does suit our system better all round so letís hope he has a good pre-season and as it at least knocking on the door for a starting place in the side. Iím sure he will be determined to repay the faith and support shown to him by us.
