Indeed. Have go at a 28 year old who retired from 1 day cricket when we needed him but not a 36 year old who is fighting to keep his place and make an impact for his country.

I was just thinking that today, once youve made a good score you can just defend the boudarys with a couple trying to save the single, almost impossible to keep scoring heavilly against a field like that.

In recent times I've seen the Aussies make 300+ against NZ and lose. That 400+ against SA - which was chased down - is still fairly fresh in the memory as well.

The main problem for England is that they are rubbish at doing the basics of the game. They amble runs rather than sprinting the first to see if they have a chance at a second. They don't look to rotate the strike with quick singles. They don't bowl to their field and rarely keep to a good length. Their ground fielding is listless and they rarely attack the ball when it comes in their direction.

These are the core aspects of the game so they don't have a good platform to build on. Now while England may not be keen on the shortened version of the game in relation to 'proper' Test cricket the skills are transferable between the two versions. Honing them in one form helps in the other. The confidence of winning doesn't hurt, either. Tell me which of the skills listed in the previous paragraph don't apply to Test matches.

The most impressive thing about the Aussies - I think at least - is the fielding. Obviously we know they can bat and bowl well but watching Symonds and Clarke in particular fielding shows how the Aussies are that level above the rest of sides. Turning boundaries into two runs, making the batsman aware that they will hit the stumps given the chance.. it's all 'basic' stuff but Australia have proven that it's almost that basic stuff that does frustrate batsman, and in the end helps to take wickets.

Also as mentioned the world class batting and bowling does help

Just seen the highlights of today. When you make Monty look like a genius fielder you know things are bad, Tremlett - sort it out.

If the Kiwis could catch it would have been far worse.

I can't quote the statistics off the top of my head but I am sure that when a team bats first and scores over 275 they win 80% (approximately, can't remember exactly) of the time.

Actually I agree whole heatidly with what you have said, fielding isnt a hard skill, it just takes coaching and a bit of an aggressive attitude, I really admire good fielding,

Re the batting, yes I agree too, England are way too pedestrian, too many dot balls, most of englands batmen arent big hitters so they need to be able to keep rotating the strike 3 or 4 singles an over with the odd boundary would get you a platform to build in.

Ballers need to vary it up a bit more.

TBH Englands players' confidence is shot and the best thing for them now is to take a break and start again.

Never been bowled by a wide I dont think...lol

I just think that 22 wides is a ridicolous amount for a international team, I wouldnt even find that acceptable for a amatuer team tbh.

With that, extras and poor fielding we must have gifted them 50 runs

I've been watching big chunks of this series on ESPN, and I've got to agree with this. Regardless of boundaries, the Aussies turn everyone elses chances at two runs into singles, while picking up the two runs themselves.
