I like Roy a lot and have a lot of respect for him but does he really bring the best out of our players? I’m not sure he does.

Have a lot of respect for Roy but imo we should looking at a long term manager to use the supposed funds this summer to assemble a squad to avoid an unbalanced squad.
DF and SP need to identify a manager who can simply sustain keeping us above float and developing players and the squad as a whole. Looking at the players we've been scouting it appears the next manager will have to work with players on the rise in the second tier.

This idea that because FDB failed, a manager who only ever experienced success in a league worse than the championship, means that younger, foreign coaches can’t work at Palace, is frankly absurd. Best place to look for coaches is the Bundesliga imo, good quality league and all about pressing, which the Prem is moving further and further towards season by season. But all in all, we probably don’t have much to spend, and I can’t see us doing better than mid table and giving the cups a go. Roy’s more than capable of that. No point changing manager yet, unless someone outstanding becomes available.

You should visit the KUMB site. Not fans known for their generous views of the opposition. Roy described as a good manager! So many blinkered supporters on here. |

Taking him on in the top flight would be a risk for any club, as you are just as likely to get the clueless burnt out manager who quit on Huddersfield as you are the fast paced, energetic one who got them promoted - the latter, I would take, but the former would be woeful.

The biggest fear of getting in any young(ish) manager that is capable of successfully doing the above, is that they will be off to a better/bigger club at the first sign of interest! Someone mentioned Everton, West Ham, Wolves above. Well, how many of those managers would be off when the bigger clubs come calling, and not just English based. We'd suffer the same fate and just join the merry-go-round of managers searching for stability again. Whilst I'm not suggesting we stick with Roy purely because he is far less likely to do the off at the first opportunity for a bigger club, that is clearly the gamble for the club, but this does at least offer that opportunity of stability, for a bit more than short term.

Not to disrespect Leicesters amazing achievement of winning the title I think Roy has shown this season how it can be done and why it doesn't happen. I can't think of more than 1 or 2 games we couldn't have won and won easily, the players on the pitch haven't taken the chances the team has created week in week out and I think if we had Vardy from that title winning season or a striker who can take the chances provided we could have won far far more games. We are 100% competitive in matches, we create as many if not more chances than the opposition we play, we have a pretty decent record against the top 6. Roy has my full backing and I hope the backing of the board in the summer to get some good players in.
The day the chances stop being created is the day Roy is no longer good enough for the job and we have an abundance of chances every game.

I'm in favour of Roy staying but only if we can invest in some serious playing talent over the summer. Let's use Roy's black book of connections and his man-management skills to secure some top players. We are 2 or 3 quality players short. Let's spend the money on the likes of RLC, Lookman etc. Young pacy attacking talent that can command a first XI slot.
We need the stability that Roy can give, but we also need to spend. It's already 12 months overdue. We have an excellent squad and 8 or 9 top quality first XI players. But there are still a couple of gaping holes that need filling. We can add the final pieces of the jigsaw to the squad in the summer and give Roy a season to see what he can do. My gut feeling is he would still come up short with his negative tactics, but he deserves a transfer window to get the right players in for the fabulous work he has done steadying the ship. I also think Roy could help us attract better players than most of the other managers we would currently be able to attract. NOW is the time to spend, and doing it whilst Hodgson is at the helm will be good for us.

Best manager we’ve had since we’ve been in Prem.
