He is better value than Mutch, who was on considerably more.

Folks - if you want entertainment then the boiled piss when Mr Mullery was in charge and we endured the likes of Aylott, Bason, Mickey Droy, leads me to the simple observation that the current squad (not just First XI) is the best in CPFC history. 7th consecutive season in top flight football. We as fans are living the dream. Next season is the biggest in our history as the squad evolves and changes. Some of our younger players now need to train with the first team squad as we try and improve and reduce the average age of our overall group. RH stability and experience will be needed.

JB, you outdate me by a long way, but I very much agree about our squad. But if it is so good, why oh why do we play so badly?

The really annoying thing is that very occasionally we have sparkled, and have looked a real threat.
Surely against Bournemouth we can bloody well take the game to them? |

With the real possibility of losing Zaha and AWB this Summer who exactly would be a better person to be in charge other than Roy.
It's going to be a massive transition, especially if we lose Zaha as his play wins us so many goals and set pieces. |

But for arguments sake, say this is the best squad in terms of talent, we've ever had, it simply ignores the fact every other team we are in and around probably has a better squad in terms of talent than they have ever had? The CPFC squad of last season was at the very worst equal to the current one, in many respects it was better, certainly more complete. If everyone else around you improves and you stay still, our best ever squad, simply slips further and further down the leagues. This being the best ever CPFC squad, is irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. It's how good you are amongst the rest, compared to the rest. Teams stifle us at home, we stifle teams when they are at home. We do what others do to us. As poor as Roy is perceived at Home, is how good he is Away. Much easier to improve your home form with certain incomings than it is to improve your away form, as he did last year.

As an owner, that could be the difference between X and X + £6m. I wonder how the owners would be wanting him to approach the game, take it to them or don't lose? Bournemouth would be very happy for us to go at them and expose our slow CB's on the counter. Not sure that is the best way to play them, and at the cost of Benteke's wages for the season.... Football is a business, entertainment is now a very very far away secondary factor. If it was, Roy may already be gone from football. Benitez, Mourinho, Dyche, Allardyce, Pulis etc. would all have disappeared.

That was 2 years ago, they finished second that season (although in a weird Burnley finishing 7th esque, over performing and not playing particularly well way). I’m talking about the here and now. Schalke are crap.

Have to agree - The likes of Aylott and Bason were shocking, but I always associate Droy with the beginning of our upturn under Steve Coppell. He was a real leader in a team, with few leaders.

No, but I'm just saying that he's getting recognition with his salary. We've got the 9th highest wage bill in the league. It shouldn't be that hard to keep this squad up.

Where is there anything from the club to back up the media rumours of Wilf and Aaron being made available for transfer or wanting to leave Palace where they signed long term contracts in 2018.
Too many are being taken in as believing rumours regarding Palace coming out of unreliable media sources with nothing being officially said to confirm them. Every transfer window this happens and very rarely are the media rumours proven right. COYP |

fancy a bet (for a chosen charity) over whether AWB leaves?
If he leaves, you pay to the nominated charity. If he stays, I pay to the nominated charity.

The only reason it hasn't happened is because, so far, we haven't received bids big enough and we have managed to pay big enough wages to keep our best players. The problem is our current wage bill is unsustainable without any other money coming in, plus we nearly always seem to be in a relegation battle than challenging for Europe, which is what our best players will want. I will be very surprised if we don't sell at least one of our most valuable players this summer. |

AWB is going to be an England international for years to come and is being talked about by all the top clubs. I reckon Arsenal will want him as Emery needs to build a defence. Zaha is ambitious. He is not going to want to retire without even getting a shot at Champions League football. He has something to prove after failing at Man Utd. |
