I don't think it was a 100% cut and dried penalty, but I would have expected we get that if Palace were playing.
His arm being in the air was irrelevant for 2 reasons, firstly the ball didn't hit his arm until after it had hit his chest and secondly there was nothing in last season's rules about raising arms.

Yep. But the ref and the VAR lot gave it as a penalty, so a penalty it was.

No amount of hand-wringing will change this.

But it was in UEFAs interpretation guidance to refs for the CL. Which they are entitled to do. Making your body bigger to stop a shot or cross is a pen, even if it didn't hit the arm first. If it had happened challenging for the ball, no pen.

Yes. But players and manager and media and fans have moaned so much about handball, that's what we have led ourselves too.

Clever flicks onto arms. Or defenders doing that stupid arms behind backs.

Leon Cort did that hands behind the back thing years before it was mainstream.

The arms behind backs move will hopefully become a thing of the past as it’s not down to just one persons interpretation anymore, as long as the players arms are in a ‘normal’ position VAR will get the right decision

Anyone flapping their arms around like Sissoko did will only have themselves to blame, the rules should be clear

So, in 2013, Wigan Athletic were the best team in England on the basis of having won a competition in which every team in the country down to level 10 was eligible and they were the only team not to lose in it? Nobody beat them..........

Forget your Liverpool and Spurs love in and think about it.

I know it was hardly the same level as a Champions League Final, but let’s have a bit of context here as Spurs have several devious bastards in their team who are not above conning the ref or contriving situations in their favour, as of course are the also deceitful bin dippers, so it’s a case of what goes around, comes around imo.

I would prefer the old school understanding of handball, i.e. hand to ball is, but ball to hand isn’t, but let’s be honest, this went out ages ago, along with the daft idea that you can’t pick up a back pass, as it deliberately wastes time, although a goalkeeper can walk the ball to the opposite side of the goal after it’s gone out of play - or the ‘second phase’ offside law, which seems to magically not always be the same outcome for exactly the same incident according to the various official’s interpretation of it, just like odd case of the advantage rule not counting when a certain team plays in FA Cup Finals.
Oh, now why did you have to say that!!

The thing that doesn't seem to have been mentioned is that he was actually pointing, probably to help direct his fellow defender where to take up a position. Can hardly be classed as waving/flapping his hands around.

I mentioned that and surely it's a legitimate use of your arm. What's he supposed to do, send tweets with links to Google Maps?

The problem with the new interpretation is you’re going to get forwards aiming the ball at defenders arms, which I suspect happened in this instance; coupled with the ludicrous scene of defenders jokying forwards with their hands ‘tied’ behind their backs.
