Oh please come on... of course Europe should be responsible for it's own defence decisions...does anyone in their right mind want European defence depending on and bowing to the interests of the USA? ..wtf...

Always an interesting guy and remember he thinks the UK should have stayed in the EU.

Final couple of paragraphs sum exactly what I’ve been banging on about since this whole sorry affair kicked off

Quote:
On Brexit, Bercow says the decision to leave the EU is the biggest foreign policy mistake by a British government in the postwar period. He also criticises Brexiters for campaigning to leave the EU before they had devised a detailed plan about how a UK withdrawal could be achieved, and would work.

This lack of forethought by Brexiters meant the last three years of his time as Speaker were dominated by rows in parliament between Remainers and Leavers, leading in the end to total deadlock.

“I had assumed that the architects of, and proselytisers for, Brexit, would have a clear idea of what they wanted. I was surprised there wasn’t greater clarity,” he says.

Eh ?

The decision to leave the EU wasn’t made by the government.

I think his point was that there have been people banging on about leaving the EU for years and yet when it came to it, it turned out there was no plan.

What? It’s the point that there’s not a ******* Brexiteer in the country who has a solid implementable plan, that all, nay a majority, of his or her fellow Brexiteers can get behind.
3 years of utter bullshit because these ***** couldn’t be bothered to think it through.

And in case you are also in any doubt what Brexit means, it means Brexit.

The quote in the full interview with Bercow was:

'I don't easily get depressed but my personal view is that Brexit is the biggest foreign policy mistake in the postwar period'.

Apologies if this point has been made before as Im new to the thread. I think the Brexit debate ultimately it just comes down to competitiveness. The high of feeling self-righteous is intoxicating and making other people feel fear and shame whilst feeling self-righteous it's an incredibly powerful cocktail and is highly addictive once you get a taste for it.

Nah, it comes down to facts like borders and treaties.

And also people refusing to accept the result of referendum. Overturning it will be an absolute nightmare and could make Nigel Farage prime minister or in opposition in a few years time, risking that is far more stupid in my opinion.

Project Fear.

Only the LibDems have suggested this could happen if they win, which of course, they won't.

Another referendum on Johnson's deal woth the option to remain, or anyone else's deal for that matter, is not overturning anything. It getting the up to date opinion of the people after four years, and the knowing definitively what they are actually voting for this time. It is democracy at its best.

And if they did, it would necessarily be democratic. Don't know why people can't understand this very basic fact.
