Glad we are not willing to spend 1m on him, he is not worth anything like that, especially with only 6 months on his contract. Also would come with high wages.

Poor decision making and poor finishing, worth a 500k punt but no more.

Time to move onto other targets.

Why?

James Vaighan is still available and Everton still need to sell him.

As you say a 500k punt and the price may well drop to that.

I'd take him for 500k, but definatly no more.

Would be a very good partner for Iversen

Indeed and with players needed in other areas i think we may sit back and watch this one play out before getting another striker in.

We havent got time to wait for Everton to try and flog him for more, we do not want to be sat here on Jan 31st complaining that no striker has come in.

We should offer 500k and make clear that is it a one time offer.

You know that Iversen is apparently set to join in the next 48 hours so IF that happens as i said in the earlier post we have a striker. We do then have some time to let this one play out and other positions become more important.

To be fair, i think we need another goal scoring striker as well as him, because if we do sign him, we haven't got another one.

In regards to Vaughan I don't think he is worth 1 million now. However it is an investment of sorts. He is still veyr young, a British striker and could definatly become a more valuable player we could look to sell on in the future. It would fit in with CPFC2010 criteria for bringing players in.

Have you seen Iversen in combination with any of our current strikers? Therefore we cannot know for sure if any of our other strikers would score well alongside him.

Because Everton won't come down to 500k before about 30th Jan, by which time it's too late if they don't.

If we sign Vaughan, I am more confident than ever that not only will we avoid relegation, but we will have a striker who is still developing who is vital to the club's long-term progress. I think he's worth a million.

He is a bit of an enigma really - As someone said here can be a poor finisher and decision maker but also a great finisher and decision maker. I feel often he won the ball cleverly but the rest of the team around him were not thinking as quickly as him and opportunities were squandered making it look like his fault that play broke up. Bit like how blokes like Ben Watson always looked better with someone like Jobi's movement to find with his passes!

Main downside is the number of games discounting pens he actually scored in. Shame Wilf has not really come on like we expected (so far of course!) as the two of them could terrorise Championship defences if on song.

I also feel that unless we have (doubtful) money to get in a Shipps/Lee type and an AJ poacher with pace, then JV with his speed/control and shielding of the ball and ability in the air would be the best thing for us

We still haven't got a player who can score goals apart from him, zaha cant yet, Scannel cant, Andrew cant, who else?

Cadagon, can't see why he isn't in the side, he did very well at the start of the season, when all the attention was focussed on Zaha. Scored a great header against QPR, would like to see him play as part of a front two, but seems to have fallen out of favour

They ain't going to play him so come the 31st Jan they will sell for what is on offer or agree to a loan for the rest of the season. Either way we could get a good deal at that point. Cardiff if they are spending are likely to sort themselves out quickly and then Everton may not have many options. Hull have signed 2 strikers, if Cardiff go elsewhere, then us and apparently Leicester are the options. Leicester will be interestiing as Eriksson usually buys big names.

Zaha is young and too much expectation at the moment.

Scannell however is now 21 , has started just 9 matches in the past 12 months due to injury, formation and competition. He has also never played off another striker, with a 4-3-3 formation usually forcing him out wide. Trappatoni who is a reasonably respected manager saw in him the potential to be an Irish international so he must have something about him.

I would like to see us play Scannell off Iversen for 3 or 4 games in January before writing him off whilst we wait and see what happens with Vaughan or we go for other options.

I wonder if Vaughan will find the prospect of playing with Iversen attractive ?
Although I hope Scannell gets his opportunity to play in the centre.

James vaughan has potential to be highly effective but at the moment he's not cosistent. His first touch is generally poor and the evidence suggests he is a poor finisher.

His inability to use his left foot even simply is a problem. There have been two occasions when he has chosen to switch to his right foot when a left foot shot would probabaly have scored. The miss against Hull was particularly dreadful. All he had to do was stick his left foot out and guide the ball into the goal. Instead he got his body unbalanced trying to use his right and missed the target completely.

He hasn't convinced me but that said there is potential and a feeling that he could get better.

If he is available at 400,000 or thereabouts then yes. Otherwise he's too expensive.
