Oh no trust me I know there are other ways out but I want to get that uniform now. It is pissing me off big time. I did figure I must be shit at lockpicking bit then how do you get good that early in the game?!

Story has taken a turn... No idea who I can and can't trust right now. Also got my eye on two bints... The mill wench and the posh tart married to Alec Guinness.

So, having jumped on the horse and cart I have just played through my first few hours of the game.

First impressions are that it is a very pretty game indeed. Just wish I had an Xbox One X and a larger top spec 4K tv. I spent a good 20 minutes just wandering about Skalitz. Having been an Assassins Creed junkie for a long time the speed and pace of the game was a huge shock and not one I think I enjoyed. It has taken some getting used to taking an age to wander from place to place, rest and eat. Luckily the inventory system is fairly straight forward, I think, although I am still getting to grips with it.

Having read reviews about the early quests I found it interesting that I managed to get the items my father needed by bashing the crap out of Kunesh, the drunk, who hadn't paid up rather than sneak back later or find additional help. I also managed to 'escape' from Talmberg by being rubbish at the game! I was caught stealing and then attempted to blag my way out of it and annoyed the guards. They then beat me senseless and arrested me and threw me in jail. I woke to find myself outside the main gates... with no armour... no horse... but free to head home to find my parents.

I felt vaguely bad looting every dead body I came across but have gathered a decent bank of resources and a few extra coins. To be fair, this was needed as my clothes were literally falling off so I nabbed some part-worn gear from a thief/looter I found along the road. Before switching off I have just woken in Teresa's house in a new city. Apparently I owe her uncle a wad of coin for looking after me!

A few things of note:

- I appear to have stuck rigidly to the main quest. Are there other things to do that I have missed out on? As an AC player I am used to having everything sign posted and spoon fed to me so that I don't miss anything.
- I have read about locks being hard to pick. Thus far I haven't come across anything that needs picking, nor have I found any picks anywhere.
- Little things draw attention in the game. I found myself wandering a field picking every wild flower in sight, for no reason, other than I could.
- How annoying is sleeping, waiting and getting arrested. Watching that bloody wheel tick slowly round really makes me think carefully about when to rest and for how long.
- Holding a conversation and having a choice of options, which I assume develop Henry, make it a little more interesting than the usual non-player character interaction.

Any tips you can give me for how to 'settle in' to the game better or how to improve would be appreciated. I want to make sure I don't miss anything!

You haven't missed anything, you're basically funnelled up until you wake up at the miller's, then you're free to follow any path you want.

The only advice I'd give is practice everything, using a sword, using a bow, reading (when a scribe has taught you the basics) and your character will shape and you can use the perk system to create the Henry you want to see.

The only other advice i'd give is listen carefully to characters, they often say things that don't then appear in the quest log.

Other than that, enjoy Bohemia!

You sound similar to me. Very big Assassins Creed fan / player. This feels very AC meets Skyrim and it's those later parts that I am still a little unsure of. I am used to being able to run up buildings and across rooftops to escape, you can't do that sort of thing in this game. That being said it took me ages to realise how to draw my sword too. Needless to say Henry right now is as crap at Swordfighting as he is lock picking.

I like the in depthness to it. I have already started chucking (selling) food if it is heading towards the low 70s for freshness. Just so much to keep an eye on. My tiredness was right down the other day and I kept walking into walls etc.

Put a few more hours into this today. Explored Rattay a bit and got some new clothes and met a few people. Sad thing is, I find it irritating how slow everything is and the fact that your map is largely useless until you accidentally find things. I also struggle with the lack of ‘spoonfeeding’ as I was accustomed to with AC. The constant attention to sleep, food and items degrading is also becoming a serious chore. This is no fault of the game but my own! Also tried to learn lock picking from the Miller and spent 25 minutes and still couldn’t do the tutorial lock! The whole thing vibrates constantly and I keep the sweet spot gold but eventually the pick just breaks - seriously annoying!

On my current path I fear I may grow tired of the game before experiencing what it is all about. I’m already thinking that giving it a go tomorrow is more of something I should do rather than want to do. Contemplating ‘swapping’ it with my brother as he was more into Fallout and full on RPGs. This is almost a medieval simulation game... and I suck at sims!

Can well understand the culture shock from modern games, there's zero spoonfeeding and it IS a medieval sim.

These are factors for me that are so refreshing about the whole affair, but if it ain't your bag, then that's perfectly understandable.

I can smash 'easy' and 'very easy' locks now, but still can't do 'hard' or 'very hard'. The only advice I can give, is when you are losing the sweet spot, stop turning the key and try to quickly re-find it before carrying on turning.

Tramping about as Henry is a slog at the beginning, but once pebbles arrives it's like a breath of fresh air (though still with the capacity to get horrendously lost.)

Medieval Bohemia ain't no picnic though!
