What does SP need to do to become our greates chairman ever?

Longest spell in top division already set. A possibility of another FA cup final .. imagine winning it.

Coming higher than third is very unlikely in the game today

Arguably the team that cane third had the quality and opportunity to finish second but choked a little?

Wow I have to challenge your final sentence Mr Burger. We travelled to Arsenal in late February with a genuine shot at winning the league had we won that game, hard as it is to believe. We got stuffed, which put paid to that, but on checking the stats we then took 20 points from our remaining 12 games which was a solid enough return to secure third place. The run-in included a 3-0 shoeing at Anfield when if memory serves we were down to the bare bones - didn't have any squad to speak of back in those days. But during that run we also beat Leeds away (they finished fourth and won the league the following year), Spurs at home, and memorably stuffed the wankers 3-0 on the final day.

So in short, no, I don't believe there was any choking and indeed that team was full of characters who would not have been of that mindset.

Choking? F@cktard.

Best Palace team I've ever seen. Two great forwards, two great midfielders, two great centre backs and a great keeper formed a solid core. Surrounded by some brilliant support players. With our best ever manager to boot.

You missed out refuses to meet any of the E400 for discussions, as we are not and will never be happy with being moved!

It's little things like this that make great chairmen!!

This can't deny he's been a good chairman on the pitch, but the treatment of Block E, the most loyal fans has been atrocious.

Up until this season I wouldn't have argued that he is a great chairman, but his childish and unprofessional attitude to loyal supporters knocks a lot of that shine off, and having experienced his attitude first hand, it stinks!

So now even finishing 3rd is not good enough? the league was still a tough league before the premier league started, they were a team put together from lower league and non-league players locking horns with seasoned title contenders, so ‘choked’ is a bit harsh

Agree our starting strongest 11 I would say is best starting 11 I have seen palace ever have maybe not player for player but as a team but didn't have depth of squad .

There is no comparison between football before the Premier League and what it has become since the huge influx of cash through broadcasting rights changed the face of the game and attracted rich owners like a moth to the flame.

FFP has now created a huge gulf between the top 6 clubs and the rest of football as it limits the ability for clubs to break this monopoly that these clubs have enjoyed for years building up their clubs by spending millions before the restrictions on spending were introduced.

Modern football needs a more level playing field to improve competition.

Liverpool and Arsenal were so far ahead of everyone at that time. No choking at all.

I agree that saying we 'choked' is harsh, but we did run out of steam a little - only taking 5 points from our last from six games between 30 March and end April.

Team didn’t choke but were ****ed over by the decision to let Liverpool back in Europe so they had nothing to play for

As I remember, it was Easter that killed us. I'm pretty sure I went into that weekend thinking we still had an outside shot at the title and then we lost both games. Man City and Norwich maybe?

Sunderland and Man City over Easter, we lost them both. Remarkably that season we lost only once in our first 15 league games, away to the wankers. We didn't lose our third league game until new year's Day.

That Man U game away was so frustrating. They were struggling and we went there unbeaten after 10 games I think, yet they totally bossed us. We just couldn’t break them down. 2-0 to them in the end.

Was funny at the end though as the United fans taunted us in the upper tier, we started singing ‘You lost 5-1 to City’ song, and they went absolutely beserk. Hit a right nerve
