I like Roy a lot and have a lot of respect for him but does he really bring the best out of our players? I’m not sure he does.

Have a lot of respect for Roy but imo we should looking at a long term manager to use the supposed funds this summer to assemble a squad to avoid an unbalanced squad.

DF and SP need to identify a manager who can simply sustain keeping us above float and developing players and the squad as a whole. Looking at the players we've been scouting it appears the next manager will have to work with players on the rise in the second tier.

This idea that because FDB failed, a manager who only ever experienced success in a league worse than the championship, means that younger, foreign coaches can’t work at Palace, is frankly absurd. Best place to look for coaches is the Bundesliga imo, good quality league and all about pressing, which the Prem is moving further and further towards season by season. But all in all, we probably don’t have much to spend, and I can’t see us doing better than mid table and giving the cups a go. Roy’s more than capable of that. No point changing manager yet, unless someone outstanding becomes available.

'Fans' calling for his head are deluded and have very short memories (FDB).
I think the individual shedding the "dead wood" is probably the much maligned Freedman. RH seems to have some misgivings that it might have left us short in midfield.

When we need to appoint a new manager, we will have to see who is available, it's probably not the type of position that you can plan for, years ahead. As for the sudden enthusiasm for German managers (just as German football goes through a period of decline), it's a fad and fashions change quickly - best to keep an open mind.
Can't understand the fascination with that mediocrity David Wagner.

Wouldn’t call Wagner a mediocrity, took a bottom half championship squad to promotion, and a season of survival. But, I find it hard to envisage how he’d do at a team like Palace. Him with a decent set of players is just an unknown quantity. For all we know, backs to the wall football suits him best, which, imo, we’re too good to be playing outside of matches against the big 6.

Roy loves being on the training field drilling players into a team shape / structure
Not so sure about other aspects of management where he appears less acvomplished

You should visit the KUMB site. Not fans known for their generous views of the opposition. Roy described as a good manager! So many blinkered supporters on here.

Until a 4-0 drubbing at home to Spurs last season, Wagner had Huddersfield playing some decent football with a high press and decent pace about. After that match, he did a complete u-turn, and set out to try and not lose football matches. He wasn't helped by some woeful recruitment failing to address shortcomings in the squad, but his style of play at the end of his time in charge was the complete opposite to when he started out, even in the Premier League.

Taking him on in the top flight would be a risk for any club, as you are just as likely to get the clueless burnt out manager who quit on Huddersfield as you are the fast paced, energetic one who got them promoted - the latter, I would take, but the former would be woeful.

If Roy is still here at the start of next season, within 7 games he will have been our longest serving manager since we came up! Thats the most stability we will have had!

The biggest fear of getting in any young(ish) manager that is capable of successfully doing the above, is that they will be off to a better/bigger club at the first sign of interest! Someone mentioned Everton, West Ham, Wolves above. Well, how many of those managers would be off when the bigger clubs come calling, and not just English based. We'd suffer the same fate and just join the merry-go-round of managers searching for stability again.

Whilst I'm not suggesting we stick with Roy purely because he is far less likely to do the off at the first opportunity for a bigger club, that is clearly the gamble for the club, but this does at least offer that opportunity of stability, for a bit more than short term.

Not to disrespect Leicesters amazing achievement of winning the title I think Roy has shown this season how it can be done and why it doesn't happen. I can't think of more than 1 or 2 games we couldn't have won and won easily, the players on the pitch haven't taken the chances the team has created week in week out and I think if we had Vardy from that title winning season or a striker who can take the chances provided we could have won far far more games. We are 100% competitive in matches, we create as many if not more chances than the opposition we play, we have a pretty decent record against the top 6. Roy has my full backing and I hope the backing of the board in the summer to get some good players in.

The day the chances stop being created is the day Roy is no longer good enough for the job and we have an abundance of chances every game.

I'm in favour of Roy staying but only if we can invest in some serious playing talent over the summer. Let's use Roy's black book of connections and his man-management skills to secure some top players. We are 2 or 3 quality players short. Let's spend the money on the likes of RLC, Lookman etc. Young pacy attacking talent that can command a first XI slot.

We need the stability that Roy can give, but we also need to spend. It's already 12 months overdue. We have an excellent squad and 8 or 9 top quality first XI players. But there are still a couple of gaping holes that need filling. We can add the final pieces of the jigsaw to the squad in the summer and give Roy a season to see what he can do. My gut feeling is he would still come up short with his negative tactics, but he deserves a transfer window to get the right players in for the fabulous work he has done steadying the ship. I also think Roy could help us attract better players than most of the other managers we would currently be able to attract.

NOW is the time to spend, and doing it whilst Hodgson is at the helm will be good for us.

Really not confident about any pushes for Europe in the foreseeable future tbh, likes of Everton, Wolves, West Ham, you could even argue Bournemouth have so much more spending power/better connections than us. Comfortably mid table, good cracks at the cup, and ideally some kind of long term vision with the squad, investing for the future, not just the present. All this until the new stand comes, and I’m happy.
Our squad is at least as strong as all the teams you have mentioned imho, and some of those clubs would hope for a push towards Europe. Plus we have a player in our ranks that can open up teams more readily than any other player outside the Top 6. On that basis, we should be aiming for Europe even if we don't get there for whatever reason - injuries, bad luck etc. However it is only since the temporary signings of Batshuayi and Sako and Benteke regaining fitness that we have had enough attacking options. We will need to sort that in the summer if we have any hope of fulfilling our potential. If the cycle is starting again we should have some money to spend. And surely Hodgson has as many connections at anyone.

Our first 11 is as good as any of them, but Everton and West Ham’s squads blow us out the water. They’re also richer, have better infrastructure, and are just bigger clubs. Could make the same point for Leicester tbh. Wolves have only just been promoted yet are a strong bet for 7th (unless they get ‘found out’ ), and are backed by Mendes and a billionaire. Bournemouth backed by a billionaire too. A Europa league spot is possible don’t get me wrong, but I see it as unlikely with all this competition, and I am perfectly content with mid table and a go at the cups until the new stand. That’s what I’m getting at.
