According to Liz Truss we will be playing it tough and if we don't get the right result we walk.

Battling the EU and US on two fronts must be a recipe for disaster.

A few home truths in the announcement:

The British economy would be at most 0.16% larger by the middle of the next decade under a comprehensive trade deal with the US, the government has admitted, laying bare the limited benefits from striking an agreement with Donald Trump.

and...

The government had previously estimated the economy would be as much as 7.6% smaller should Britain leave the EU without a deal, and about 4.9% smaller under Boris Johnson’s preferred Canada-style agreement.

and of course the stuff on environment & welfare etc is very carefully phrased...

“The government’s manifesto has made it clear that in all of our trade negotiations, we will not compromise on our high environmental protection, animal welfare and food standards,” the document says.

But the cynic in me says - what is to stop the government lowering those standards prior to striking a trade deal with the US? They have a huge majority and can basically do anything they like. Johnson has already said he is in favour of GM crops for example.

Do you mean the surname indicates whether they are norfeners? Names like Chuzzlewit and Magwitch?

If you say so

Political power linked to wealth ? Why not - if it worked for Donald Trump let's try it in London.
You consider 2-4 % of the working population emigrating from around 49,000 cities to one city every year is low? A million every 5 years? Over 10% of the population of that one city? How many would be a lot?

Yes regional surnames like Macdonald, Davies or Bradley. The fact that they are commonplace and second/third generation in London simple underlines the point.

I would settle for political power linked to not being a little englander or nimby/ racist/ EDL lover/ Tommy Robinson fan/ Man U (wanker) fan/ scared of leaving ones own village like a regressive hobbit. I appreciate that this is pretty hard to have a democracy based on weeding (them too) out the above but society would benefit from it.

It's not like we didn't know this. The country has sleep-walked itself into economic poverty* - pah! experts!

To misquote the great Londo Molari, only a fool would fight a trade war on 2 fronts but only the heir to the throne of the kingdom of idiots would fight a trade war on WTO terms.

Good news! Government forecasts a new UK-US trade deal will boost economy by 0.16%

(Its only good news from now on so wont mention the cost to the economy due to Brexit predicted by the same model)

I see the latest statistics for new National Insurance numbers for overseas citizens came out at the end of last week. In the year to end June there were 708,000 new NI numbers, in the year to end September it was 752,000, in the year to end December it was 766,000 (up 21% year on year). From the EU the numbers were up 9% year on year and 45% from the rest of the world. Big increases in numbers arriving for work from Italy and Spain and even more so from India (up 71%). (ONS).

The blame game has started in Fisheries and Farming. Project Fear? Project, when the cows come home.

I am buying a new keyboard with an extra button. It has ' told you so ' on it. I am expecting to wear this button out next year.
