21!! No thanks. It was actually a pairs score where you take te best score on the hole although from memory it was me doing most of the scoring. A few more rounds with these G10's and hopefully I'll be able to reduce my handicap a bit. I know I can get down to maybe 17/18 but just don't play enough.

A few nice groupings for Thu and Fri at Wentworth: -

Karlsson, Mcilroy & Donald
Westwood, O Wilson & Stenson
Jiminez, Schwartzel & Casey
Quiros, Kaymer & Poulter
E Els, R Fisher & R Davies
S Hansen, F Molinari & P Harrington

I hope the big names make it through to Sat when I am going along!

I've managed to get Clubhouse tickets from a member at Wentworth - should be good although no cameras or phones allowed inside so cannot take photos of the players. Still get to go to the Burma Bar and onto the terrace

I was supposed to have played on the West course a few years ago as one of my friends knew someone who worked there and could get us a round for nothing, unfortunately the day they all went along I was suffering from the flu and so missed out. I'd love to go along and watch though, I have never been to a professional event, I know a guy who used to live in Cardiff and worked at Castle Royal who reckoned he was still in contact with people working there and could guarantee us some tickets for the Ryder Cup this year but whether or not he does I don't know.

Any recommendations for a weekend golf break?

Looking to take the other half so needs to be

Straightforward course, 9 hole option ideally
Nice hotel and food
Not too expensive
On the South coast would be good

Any thoughts?

Just booked up Spain for July, should be playing 4 rounds

Back from Devon - great week's golf and weather surprisingly. didn't see Edenbridge at RND! Anyway -

Monday:

Warmed up with 9 holes on Woolacoombe & Mortenhoe 9 hole. Bit of a field but the greens were OK and their are 300 yd plus holes. Good to practice pitching and the fairways helped later on at RND. 15 pts

Moved on to Ilfracoombe. Lovely views - you can see the see from every hole. Lots of blind drives and second shots, built onto the side of the cliffs so very slopey! Excellent condition and friendly members. 31 pts

Tuesday:

East Saunton in the morning - wow - what an experience. Probably not as tough as in a few weeks when the grass grows (which helped not to lose a ball in the morning!), but felt like a championship course off the whites - even with no wind blowing. Par 4s are incredibly long. 35 pts

West Saunton in the afternoon. Tighter course with some big carries to the fairways. closer to the see and a bit more wind. Again - brilliant condition, although the greens weren't as fast as expected. 37pts! (but 3 lost balls!) (Note - played the "IBM Society" stableford of taking a drop & penalty for a lost ball)

Wednesday

Saunton East for a second time - much murkier and humid which made the ball travel less, but better knowing the way round. Only spoiled a bit by some sniffy members who complained about a slowish group in front of us when they had played 15 holes in 2&1/2 hours! 34 pts

A point to note on Saunton (both) - there are some VERy long carries and "over the hill" tee shots for the ladies so if you take your better half she needs to be a good strong driver who gets the ball in the air otherwise she will hate it and hate you!

Thursday

Royal North Devon - like nothing else! A mix of links and open common ground with sheep & horses. Great holes and really spooky when the sea mist rolled in. Club house steeped in history and atmosphere. I hit a sheep on my first tee shot! Make a not about the 11th. Its a blind drive over sea rushes with a marker post. Both of us went right over the post (red & white tees) with good drives and found our balls had disappeared through the fairway into more sea rushes! The right line, not mentioned anywhere, is actually left of the marker which gives loads of fairway. When we moved on, there was a man & dog ferreting in the area we drove into - maybe he moved to post to get balls to sell? Anyway - 34 pts

Fantastic set of courses which has done wonders for my straightness off the tee and my long fairway shots. Well worth a week down there. Apparently High Bullen is really nice as well.

Now for the real world at Bletchingley again.

Just played a course down the road from me called Forester Park as I am thinking about joining due to them doing an under 30's membership for 400. Not a bad little course some of the holes were a bit regimental and felt like we were just playing in a big field goig up and down through 5 or 6 holes but then there were about 9 or 10 holes that were quite nice. Just not sure if it's what I want from a golf course but at 400 for a 7 day membership maybe I shouldn't be so picky. Played like a dick on the front 9 and lost a lot of balls but pulled it together on the back nine and finished with a half decent 31 point off of 24.

They are doing a guest day on the 11th June if anyone is interested, bacon rolls, tea and coffee in the morning, 9 hole texas scramble, in for a ploughmans for lunch, 18 hole pairs stableford in the afternoon then a 3 course meal in the evening. 50......per pair!!!!!!! Bargain!

Got back today.....played 5 rounds at RND - 2 on Monday, 1 on Tuesday and 2 on Wednesday!!!!

Missed out on Thursday and Friday but BBE was right the old sea mist rolled in on Thursday a real pea souper. Had no prbolem with drive on 11 but had a magnet for the sand traps all week ...... had a nice birdie on 13 (Lundy) and 16 (punchbowl)

Bloody tough course though.......best stapleford score all week was 33 (by me ) (92 gross) and par'd the 5th for the first time!!!!!

Anyone played Valle del Este in South eastern Spain? -- about two hours south of Alicante

I may be running a trip there and would appreciate some feedback about the place.

I am dusting off the clubs on Saturday and going to have a hack around for the first time in about a year.

Anyone played Woldingham Golf Club? I am going there and it looks class when I have driven past (I hope it's good for 35)

Played there just over a year ago when my own course had a trolley ban (father in law needs a buggy these days due to angina). All very contained in the chalk quarry, lots of sloping lies and a couple of sections are very up & down in the sense that the holes run very close alongside. A few very good holes, but expect a lot of shouts of "Fore" if its busy! Was in very good condition when I played it and has a pretty grand club house from the days when it was Duke's Dean.
