Yup. If clubs like Middlesbrough, Leeds, Cardiff, Swansea, Hull, Reading, Norwich, Palace etc. can all fail to win promotion, what chance do Brighton have? Seriously?

(especially when their top scorer walks out on them for a bigger and better club)

What's the point of us spending 110 million quid on a stadium and not having aspirations above hanging around at the bottom of The Championship.

This of course may well be what happens but we have to have a goal to aim at.

I for one find the talk of us going up again a little embarrassing but you never know. Millwall have done OK this year and we are about on par with them with a new ground I guess.

As an aside, I find Brighton's new Billy Big Bollocks attitude genuinely hilarious.

Their new ground looks ace, I'll give them that, and they've done well to sell 16k season tickets - but will those fans keep coming back once the novelty of a new stadium has worn off? Will they ****.

Will their squad that's pissed League One be good enough to crack the play-offs? Highly doubt it. Not with three strong Prem clubs coming down and the usual suspects kicking around in the top half. They'll do well to stay up in season one.

And will Poyet really stay when a bigger club comes knocking? Course not.

Still, let them believe what they want to. It'll only make it funnier when it all unravels.

It's not the stadium, it's the team that plays in it.

In reality you want a decent stadium, but it's going to make the match day experiance much better and easier for the away team. Nice new facilities will aid the three points many times against you

Then why model your stadium on Crewe?

Over half the capacity in 1 stand ad both ends no bigger than our Whitehorse lane end. Cannot wait to get in nice and early so i stop laughing before the game starts!

Loads of clubs that come up do well then revert back to their more realistic level the following year.

The truth is, the bottom 10 or so clubs in The Championship aren't very good (us, sadly included).

Preston, Sheffield United, Scunthorpe, Derby, Coventry, Doncaster, Boro (just off the top of my head) are all pretty shit.

The teams that come up are usually on the crest of a wave and so manage to finish in the top half but very few actually manage to go up.

You'll then find the season after they struggle -

Luton, Colchester, Bristol City, Doncaster (taken them 2 seasons in fairness) all spring to mind.

It's like us getting into the Premiership and saying we'll make a Champions League place. I'd be equally embarrassed. I can understand you lot having aspirations and enthusiasm what with your current situation and to be honest with the infrastructure you have now I can see you establishing yourselves in the division and looking forward to pushing on in the coming years, but obviously living down this way I know a lot of Brighton fans and the fact that they seriously think you'll be pushing for a promotion place next season is a little cringeworthy. It might happen (I didn't expect you to piss all over the league this year) but surely after promotion the first thoughts should be on consoladation (sp?).

Luton are an excellent example. I remember Plymouth being a strong side as well before their relegation season.

I will piss myself if we steal the 'Mighty, almost Barcelona-esque' Brighton's top goal scorer.

What an absolute downer for them

Freedman: Murray deal talk is not true

Wednesday, 13 April 2011

By Richard Cawley

PALACE boss Dougie Freedman has dismissed reports that he is closing in on the signature of Glenn Murray.

There was a claim earlier today that the 21-goal Brighton striker, who is due to be a free agent in the summer, is on the verge of making a switch to the Seagulls’ arch rivals.

But Freedman, talking to the South London Press, was quick to knock the story down.

He said: “It’s not true and in my experience of the game it is probably the agent trying to work Brighton for more money - and he’s just picked local rivals to wind them up.

“I know a lot of clubs are in for the kid - so why pick Crystal Palace?

“He’s on a free transfer and I expect Glenn Murray to be too expensive for us.”

Millwall have had a goalscorer and filled their team with battling Championship-quality players.

Just Freedman playing things down a bit. On a free transfer he is bound to be wanted but if he doesn't move home that other puts 4 or 5 clubs in the hunt.

Millwall would be the ideal benchmark, and the comparison is realistic. In fact you have won the league at a canter not relied on the playoffs and also have a fan base who could regularly come close to filling your ground, unlike smallwall. But what they didn't do is sell Steve Morison after getting promoted and Murray would seem to be a similar player for you. Although I'd actually be very surprised if he joined us.

The future is looking brighter for us than ever before. Of course, there is going to be an element of 'Billy Big Bollox' from a proportion of our supporters, but most are feeling hugely positive for the first time in years.

Tony Bloom is going to want to hang on to Gus Poyet. He is one of the hottest prospects in the football league. Gus has stated that he would like to be here for a very long time as long as we progress and improve. Of course, the Premier League is a target for all Championship managers/clubs/chairmen.

I don't think many of us expect to stroll through the Championship. If we can keep the momentum going, then there is no reason why we should be relegated immediatly or struggle - that of course depends on new signings, luck and so on.

Are you telling me that you would not be overexcited moving up a league and finally having a new ground to play in, which is pretty much sold out already?

I guess there is an element of always being put down by opposing fans, particularly you lot, as we have been a tinpot outfit for donkeys years and playing at a venue more suited to a school sports day for over a decade and we are now in a position (nearly) to refute that.

There are plenty of level headed fans that are not expecting a march to the title next season, but there is always that feint hope and one can dream.
