Giovanni McGregor & Noor Husin Sign
Alongside Jonathan Benteke, as I mentioned in his thread, these two have signed for the development squad. Can't find much on Noor Husin but this McGregor kid looks good. Also scored against us in the u18's for Brentford last season with a free kick.

Noor Husin was released by Reading.
Nya Kirby is still on trial having turned down deals with Spurs and Chelsea.

Interesting article on Nya Kirby, seems he has a lot of promise and is rated by the club, also physically he looks impressive to cope. Would be quite a coup if we land him from what i read.

A little more on Nya Kirby To view the link you have to Register or Login, he is unlikely to join us though.
Gio McGregor must have signed a pro deal then, if they're announcing it like that. Joined from Brentford U18s (released due to their restructuring) this summer and has looked good in the U18s, started every game and has done well. Looks like a box-to-box CM with good strength. Noor Husin has been on trial with us for a while, not a surprise he's signed but a bit pointless.

There was an interview in the metro with Mandella Egbo and it was really refreshing to read quotes from someone who is clearly very independent. Some of the quotes he made were staggering. A lot of young footballers and adults have no independence to a point where they will call their agents if they need a new sofa or need clothes ironed. What the hell are they going to do when there careers are over and they have to do basic chores themselves? If you're a sixteen year old and you can hold a Premiership club to ransom over money where's the ambition or drive to improve yourself? More players need to look at Eric Dier and his time in Portugal and follow himself lead. |

Not so sure, thier careers could be over in a flash. Whilst yes they should develop themselves as a player I can't blame them for sorting thier financial futures. I was reading up on team GB para olympic team which is littered with ex pro's who could have made it if fate hadn't intervened for example car crashes, illnesses etc etc It's a short career, yes you should make the most of your talent and develop and nurture it but also look after your finnicial future. It's a balancing act. Would be interesting to list all youngsters you have made a first team appearance and where they are now and that doesn't even cater for those that were highly rated but didn't feature before being released. I don't think sky created this but it has offered the opportunity for some to look after thier finnscisl futures and agreed some youngsters let this go to thier heads and they don't give a shit. Though this hasn't changed... My family lodged numerous palace youngsters back in the late 80s and 90s including many of those you will remember as being then next big thing. Attitude then as much as now is everything... Nowadays they have money as well... Basically if you are a nob and billy big bollox it's the same then as it is now. To many think they have made it before they have put the graft into thier craft. |

Saw Husin play against Farnborough on his trial. The kid has got real ability and I was impressed by how quickly he played once he got the ball.

They are the best at what they do, they have a short career and some even at his age will not make it. You are quick to judge but what sort of money are we talking about here? What is this unreasonable demand? Considering Spurs only pay their England international 20 goal a season striker £50k, maybe they are offering something he thinks he can improve on elsewhere? |

Not when I was 16 but I did when I was 18 and 21. It was the only way to get experience and many other people did the same thing. Sucks at the time but you benefit later.

There are loads of cases of very talented players who completely lack the mentality to push themselves, like Ravel Morrison and Giggs' brother. Kane and Townsend are good examples of players who've made the most of their ability - and their opportunity to impress - by working hard, playing wherever they can all around the country on loan and just getting on with it. Ridiculous that anybody in any profession would start naming their price before they have any experience. |

My tutor at University used to be Academy academy director for Barnsley and he said out right, he could pick maybe 2 or 3 kids he could make it at an elite level, the rest, even if they made reserve football, knew they were just there to make up the numbers most of time. The problem that I would have with offering someone outside of Palace's development a load of money is that it may well be breaking an ethos set out by the club that is given to the rest of the youth team players. |

Saw him in the match against the Barnsley development squad. Looked confident on the ball, feisty and not afraid to put himself about against far more experienced Barnsley players. |

His family moved over to Portugal due to employment (his Mother). Dier didn't make some big decision to go over there to learn. He got picked up by Sporting. Egbo's decision, on the face of it, seems be driven by a conscious decision to broaden his development. Sounds impressive and intuitively you would think its a smart thing to do but no idea how you would know if it was or not. How do you measure those things?
