Try checking the disk permissioning for applications and files.
Go to Finder search for Disk Utility or go to Utilities and open it. Click on the hard drive normally Macintosh HD, on the first aid tab, select "verify disk permissions" it will run through and see if any of the permissions for any apps have got screwed up? Hopefully it might show iTunes. If so click on "repair disk permissions" and hopefully it has fixed it? |

Tried most of those and still couldn't get it running. Eventually solved it by deleting the iTunes app then downloaded/re-installed it and it now seems to be working fine. Cheers for all the suggestions.

Now for a question that I have asked on here a couple of times but not been able to resolve. Whenever I delete something it doesn't go into my trash, it just gets deleted immediately. Any ideas on what I may have done to cause this (and what I can now do to put it right)?
This only happens on my log-in, on my wife's account items go into the trash when deleted as normal.

Excellent, I have asked on here a few times and until now not managed to resolve the problem (though that may be because I was nervous about entering commands in the Terminal box). I needed to enter sudo rm -rf ~/.Trash which didn't seem to work but I tried a few times and eventually things seem to be going into my trash as normal.

My mother has asked me to take a look at her mac as it is running sluggishly, it is an iMac which is about six years old. I think it is the last of the 24 inch machines or possibly the first of the 27 inch ones, has a 3.06GHz core 2 duo processor with 4GB RAM, it is not being used for anything intensive.
There is loads of free space on the hard drive (she is using about 100gb on a 1Tb drive) so I am thinking about reinstalling the operating system (Mavericks). I am also thinking about fitting some more RAM, although what is already in there should be plenty, as I have some sitting around. Is it okay to mix different kinds of RAM? Her machine has 4GB of 1067 MHz DDR3 ram and two spare slots, I have 2 x 2GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM chips, if I slot these in will it improve performance? Any other suggestions as to what else I can do to make her computer run more smoothly?

Getting rid of all my music onto separate nas drive has really speeded up my two year old mac
Was 80/90% full now only 45% hard drive full and feels very nippy now

Got a refurb 13" MBP from Apple a couple of weeks ago. Ordered a 2.6ghz i5 - and got a 3ghz i7.
Just a shame I can't install Snow Leopard on it. Gah, I hate the look of the newer versions. |

Do people still use Chrome on Macs? Safari is so massively improved on where it was a few years ago, I haven't found a need to use another browser.

Out of interest I booted from it, and the difference was night and day. The iMac is i7 with 8GB RAM but ran like a dog at times, particularly with apps like Logic or Parallels Desktop. Booting from the SSD drive has given it a new lease of life. |
