Out of all of these, I expect we will probably hold onto Campana as I dont think he counts towards our 25 man squad and as such could be useful if we have injury issues.

If Garvan is not going to make the 25 this time around, I would be surprised if we could not find a loan/transfer deal for him.

A slight gamble that the board deem is one that won't affect us too harshly going forward is certainly worth going for. Throwing caution to the wind and putting everything on 'red' certainly isn't IMO. Now I know that the latter represents an extreme and nobody is calling for that - but the dividing line between 'calculated risk' and 'reckless gamble' is a finer one than I think most of us truly appreciate.

I'm not entirely convinced by this line of reasoning. Spending large amounts of money on short term/loan contracts means that we may find ourselves in a similar position next season. Alternatively, investing in longer contracts for younger players with less experience but more potential to develop would mean a brighter, more secure future even if we go down this year.

The gamble is surely over the difference between what we are guaranteed even if we come last (what you have quoted above) and what we would earn if we come 17th (which is not much greater). Sure, we would be getting our Premiership payout again next season but, with short term spending, we would be facing the same situation again. On the other hand, sensibly investing in the squad (with one eye on getting promoted from the Championship next season) might mean missing out on the big money next year (although parachute payments would soften that blow) but a better chance of being in the Prem the year after, and having players in the squad who are assets rather than albatrosses.

Depends how much of the extra Prem money has been or will be spent on improving things off of pitch. We were operating at loss before promotion. Look at financial mess some of recently relegated clubs are in. Do we really want to gamble at all when we came so close to losing club not so long ago?
