Probably not going to get much support for this on here but here goes.....

Whilst I am disappointed in the mannar in which Dougie left, I think that some of the vitriol he is receiving on here is out of order. I am a fan, I have been taking my boy since he was three years old and he is now 30, and still comes to games with me. We have had season tickets for a 25 years and go to a lot of away games. We are fans, we are massively passionate about Palace, we talk, eat sleep the club and loyalty is not in doubt. I know this applies to most of you who are reading this.

However, is it right to expect the same from players and managers. With very few exceptions, they are not fans (indeed, they are fans of other clubs). To most staff, it is a job, not a vocation and, in trying to take all the emotion out of the discussion, who can blame them for wanting the best for themselves. [please, I repeat, I am dissapointed also]. The one club man was a rarity and is non existant now. Jim Cannon and Matt Le Tissier are heros but that will never happen again. Everyone moves on.

So, in this "market" where playing careers are short and management jobs very insecure, I can see why they move. Everyone looks after their own.

I would rather it hadn't happened but it has. The king is dead, long live the king. We'll all be back loving whoever it is next time until he leaves of course and then he is a twat). Therefore, to expect managers and players to have the same emotional link to the club who employs them, IMO, is going too far.

Some of the shine has come off my memory of Dougie (and me and my son were at Stockport also) but when he comes back to Selhurst, I won't boo him, but give him a polite clap. Hero, he was, zero he is not.

I liked that. Not sure why people would recommend inserting it into your bottom. Some sort of odd fetish perhaps.

It's disappointing, not sure I hate him because I don't know the true story. I don't like seeing his name as Bolton manager though.

I have to say, I am neither emotional or even that sad Dougie has left. As a remote suppporter I feel this is purely dowm to personal development. This is after all his livelyhood and who wouldnt be tempted for a 5 times ay increase to conduct your job with less restrictions and frustrations?

Who cares about the pressure, if a football Manager fails they have to pay his contract u if he fails? Personally, if I was Dougie I would go for it.

Its a short shot gamble with goods odds. Will he last 2 years at Bolton, I doubt it, he doesn't have the pedigree or the history to be a good manager and I think it will turn sour for him pretty quickly but he will no doutb be living in a begger house with his children going to a better school.

Coppell would be ace!

What is really sad is that for the next generation of Palace supporters, those kids who came along to the family day, Freedman will be nothing but a figure of scorn and mockery a la Mullery. They won't even know about the massive amount of good he did for the club as a player and a manager.

In a month of former heroes plummeting into the depths of infamy, Dougie has joined Jimmy Savile and Lance Armstrong in the hall of shame.

I am certain he was sincere when he made that comment. A very good friend of mine was talking to Dougie at the Raceday last Wednesday. They had a long chat and Dougie was excited and confident about the future at Palace.

Something shifted over the weekend. What we do not know, it may have been a simple misunderstanding which became out of control and reached a point that both sides could not find a way back.

What I am 100% convinced of is that with hindsight could we go back to last Thursday and start again Dougie would still be our manager.

Remember both manager and owners are still lacking in experience of their respective positions. I am sure that given the time again we would have seen a different outcome.

However what is done is done. Dougie is still and always will be a Palace hero to me. The best striker we have had since one Johnny Byrne, their style was almost the same, Budgie had a bit more pace, but when we needed a goal either could provide one.

Dougie leaves with my best wishes and I hope he becomes a very succesful manager. He has not left us with a team that struggles nor a club in dire straights. he has contributed to the turn around as much as the owners.

Who knows now may just be the right time to move on, the experience will do both CPFC2012 and Dougie the world of good. Sometimes you can be too close to see the wood from the trees.
