Good post, Budgie Byrne. It's no-one's fault that Bolton have a lot more cash than Palace at the moment, just the way it is.

Even Dougie's dodgy quote about being in it for the long term looks less damning with hindsight, now reads more like a plea for an increased transfer budget and longer contract.

very depressing people slagging of Dougie right left and centre. If people genuinely believe he left the club for money and only money then they need their heads checking.

Something shifted over the weekend. What we do not know, it may have been a simple misunderstanding which became out of control and reached a point that both sides could not find a way back.

What I am 100% convinced of is that with hindsight could we go back to last Thursday and start again Dougie would still be our manager.

Remember both manager and owners are still lacking in experience of their respective positions. I am sure that given the time again we would have seen a different outcome.

However what is done is done. Dougie is still and always will be a Palace hero to me. The best striker we have had since one Johnny Byrne, their style was almost the same, Budgie had a bit more pace, but when we needed a goal either could provide one.

Dougie leaves with my best wishes and I hope he becomes a very succesful manager. He has not left us with a team that struggles nor a club in dire straights. he has contributed to the turn around as much as the owners.

Who knows now may just be the right time to move on, the experience will do both CPFC2012 and Dougie the world of good. Sometimes you can be too close to see the wood from the trees.
Excellent post. My sentiments exactly

I don't get why the rest of you are as upset as me. It's not as if anybody else bought a "FREEDMAN 9" home shirt last weekend!

In all serious though, those people that say that "we would have done the same thing" are talking out their arse, football is a completely different profession to any other job due to the popularity and money involved. When you did what Dougie did you're not upsetting the 13 people in your office and Janice the Cleaner, you're turning your back on thousands of people. He deserves all the boos he's going to get in my opinion.

Oh Dougie Freedman, what have you done?

Watching Ian Holloway in his post match press conference he was saying (in awe it looked like) that the players here have the talent, yes, but not just that, the structure, discipline and staff that makes the team the way they are. He looked astonished and a little shell-shocked. He also still referred to us as 'them'. He seemed in awe of what Dougie and Lennie had left.

Looking at him he looked like a man in disbelief at what he has inherited, and you can understand why. This team is incredible.

Oh Dougie. What have you done?

Don't think the song was needed in a night where we finally tore someone apart.

Just my opinion though!

Ollie was certainly enjoying himself on the touchline and calmed McCarthy down once or twice. This is a truly surreal situation. Usually we get a new manager because the last one was shite, this time we get a bigger name who inherits a team that are on the crest of a wave.....

Meaningless. Freedman wanted £. He's gone. Move on.

We have emerged out of this situation amazingly well. Its ended up a win win situation for both parties. We get arguably one of the best managers outside the prem and Dougie gets a 'new challenge' a 'fantastic squad' blah and he was just looking at the 'big picture' blah blah and the 'end game' blah blah blah and Boltons 'ambition' and their 'great academy' and 'nothing to do with the money just felt blah blah blah well you get the gist....

Plucky draw tonight Doogs

I think Ollie will be thinking 'oh Ian what have you done' in a good way - I think it's best to focus on what we have now and move on - don't need to worry about Freedman

Would Dougie have made those subs ? probably would have been more defensive

Time to move on, it was his choice, **** all we could have done

Holloway can take us forwards, with a touch of class

The last week or so has made me realise that the work Dougie and LL did in building the squad, developing our players and creating a professional atmosphere was incredible, and puts us in a really good position to move up.

I was gutted when Dougie left and really upset that someone who I though loved the club was willing to leave for a team lower than us less than 2 years after we gave him his first managerial job. But now we've moved on and brought an experienced manager who can use the squad Dougie and LL built to play more attacking, attractive football, beat teams by many goals instead of scraping wins and bring more fans to Selhurst.

I still don't particularly want Bolton to do well now, but I don't think Dougie leaving should tarnish his status as a Palace hero after what he did both as a player and a manager, especially as things worked out so well for us.
