What a waste, clearly not fancied.
You might have a point if it were not for the fact that Hodgson doesnt change the team lightly and will happily see out a game with out substitutions. People need to be patient, when he comes into the side, he will stay there.

Roy only said last Thursday that he felt Kouyate and Meyer are now finally up to speed fitness-wise, so his omission so far may not be an issue at all. Maybe Roy was thinking it wasn’t the game to throw him into with the physical nature of Huddersfield’s game.

I’m really looking forward to seeing him start as I think he’ll knit that midfield together as the balance hasn’t been right so far. Think Luca’s suffered because of that
and we may see his form suddenly change for the better with Meyer’s inclusion.

Regarding Luka, let’s hope so.

Based on recent performances I would replace Luka with Meyer!

We all know Roy doesn't like to change too much, too quickly. So I suspect he may not have been keen on changing two midfielders at the same time and plumped for Kouyate rather than Meyer.

That doesn't explain why we didn't use Meyer as a sub of course but we did look like we would hang on for the points with what we had out there, and indeed we did. So, I will give the benefit of any doubt and say he got it right on Saturday.

He won't start Meyer, we'll do what we did against Southampton against Newcastle, it really is about time we started dominating teams like these at home instead of encouraging them. Meyer would add creative play, and have a more positive drive and impact on the team.

Doesn't fit Roy's plans to start him, maybe he'll come on if we're trying to rescue points.

Yes, can see that re:Huddersfield but we are getting over-run in midfield at the moment so woukd line to see Meyer come in for Ayew or maybe Luka v Newcastle.

I noticed that. Came furthest towards the pitch than any other player to celebrate the goal- always think that's a good judge of how much a player is in to it.

He will get his chance, he is 22 and will need to prove he is worthy of displacing someone else in the team. IMHO, i would see him competing with McArthur or Luka as the moment in a more central role. Kouyate looked very decent on Saturday, while the other 2 had poor games including getting booked.

Find it extraordinary that Meyer isn't getting a game/chance after the dreadful performances so far this season.

Except against Swansea reserves the other week where Roy rightly called Puncheon the most influential player in our team.

Yep says it all against Swansea Reserves, not good enough for the 1st 11 he points too much at other players to do the work he should be doing

I explained quite clearly on the match review thread why I felt Roy got it right on Saturday by not starting him. But that said I completely agree with you that he needs to start soon. I'd put him in for either Jimmy Mac or Luka in the next one. He is head and shoulders above all our midfielders. Hopefully once he is in the side we will start to dominate the midfield more, but he won't be a panacea or a silver bullet; our problems are multiple.

Only players regaining fitness and form, plus further forays into the transfer market will get us to where we were at the end of last season. As I predicted and was shot down for saying: we are weaker than at the end of last season. And will be even when Meyer is in the side.

I can see why jimmy played.

He’s been one of the best players we had prior to that game this season. Roy has always maintained squad morale and got the best from players saying that any player with the shirt who plays well enough keeps the shirt. Jimmy was

We had made 3 changes already and too many changes is never good.

I also wouldn’t be surprised if Jimmy signing a new contract was only ever going to happen if he was sure he’d get games. It’s the last top years of his career and he will want to play. “Ok jimmy, here’s the pen.. get it signed and we can go watch the game” probably wouldn’t have been good timing!

Meyer will be in soon. Maybe for Luka but I see him in the RLC role

he has to under Roy (only joking )

FWIW I think he will start against Newcastle

They will need a bit more unlocking/breaking down than the teams we have played so far
