Not sure. Could be a dodgy one if the injuries are already there going into the tournament, although, it seems to me, they set these rules and change them if they need to.

Personally, if the likes of Pakistan, Aus & England take chances with the likes of Shoaib, Symonds and Vaughan and they get the same injuries they have just recovered from it should be tough shit, no replacement allowed.

Thankfully our injury 'worry' wouldn't have that big an impact on our team if he doesn't regain fitness. Symonds is much more important to the Aussie side I would say, especially in the field.

We've had to cope without Vaughan for a long time, and when he does play he has hardly set the world alight with the bat.

Nope. But he is a classy batsman who is due a big knock. I also think that under his captaincy, our team has superb leadership.

In the last game against New Zealand it did seem that we needed his leadership to grind out a win when we were fielding. Although having said that another 30 runs from Mal Loye at the top of the order may have made it easier possibly.

Flintoff has looked alright as a captain recently, although hopefully Vaughan can regain some form against Canada or Kenya.

When fit, Vaughan has proved himself an accomplished batsman in
5 day Test matches, but never in One Day Internationals, and for this
reason and his dodgy fitness I don't think England can risk him in the
World Cup, where we will need all the physically fit players we can get
to reach the later stages of the tournament.

Vaughan has proved himself a good captain in five day Tests, but
Flintoff showed that he has the inspirational and tactical qualities
to develop into a fine ODI captain by his leadership during the
Triangular Tournament v Australia and New Zealand , an exper-
ience from which he will have gained considerable confidence,
and learned many valuable lessons which will stand him in
good stead for the forthcoming contest in the West Indies.

Some funny commentary from Cricinfo during the ODI between India and Sri Lanka today:

0.1 "Maharoof to Sehwag, 1 wide, holy crap, thats a hat-trick of wides from Maharoof, as this one is well wide of off stump and moving away too much"

"holy crap"

Bopara in, Loye dropped, is the only surprise (and a good decision) - good sqaud there.

England squad: Vaughan (capt), Joyce, Bell, Pietersen, Strauss, Collingwood, Flintoff, Bopara, Nixon, Dalrymple, Plunkett, Anderson, Mahmood, Lewis, Panesar.

From that squad, I'd start with Vaughan, Joyce, Pietersen, Strauss, Collingwood, Flintoff, Dalrymple, Nixon, Plunkett, Anderson, Panesar

Like the line up Webb and agree Klinx that Bopara being in is a good move. I wanted Loye there personally though and Lewis is just not up to it IMO.

I like the look of that team. Alot depends on Andersons fitness. If it takes him as long to find form as it did coming into the ashes from injury then may have to look elsewhere.

Whilst Bopara is a good pick as a future star, why were the England selectors so short-sighted that he only got 1 match in Australia?

They stuck with Loye and then dump him after his best innings to date.

They don't know their ar$e from their elbow half the time...

what has Lewis done wrong exactly ?

His record (albeit limited) is pretty good in ODI's thus far and his experience on the county circuit in such a successful Gloucester outfit surely makes him an obvious pick for the squad ?
