When I was young this would have had to have a 15 minute intermission.
I saw this was being released and I was confused as I had last week watched a Netflix film called You Paint Houses or some such which I understand is the same story as the Irishman and the same actors.

Found it odd they would make 2 films about the same story with same actors

Or am I missing summat ?

Several brain cells from the sound of it.

I like Scorsese films with my favourite being Casino so I was naturally really looking forward to watching The Irishman and I think like you I couldn't make up my mind whether I liked it or not. However a few days after watching it I think I wanted to like it but in the end honestly just didn't and was very disappointed.

The age stuff was a distraction and didn't work well for me, it kept changing timelines and I found myself pre-occupied figuring out how old the actors were meant to be in the scenes. Whilst the actors' faces perhaps looked younger the same couldn't be said for the rest of their bodies and I felt they still acted old for instance in their laboured walking, they didn't seem to be any more spritely when younger. One scene that I thought was feeble was when De Niro gives the greengrocer a kicking - it just looked like an old man giving a few kicks. Then when they were at the bowling alley sitting down their arms and posture were like elderly men, a pair of grandads with kids and it just wasn't convincing that they were meant to be middle aged.

Other than the de-ageing technology used the main thing for me was that I just didn't find it engaging, I couldn't warm or root for any of the main characters as they weren't very likeable and there weren't any scenes to build up any emotional feeling for any of them or give them more background.

Also I just found the whole film incredibly one-paced and there was a lack of action scenes or even proper violence (especially given De Niro's job) to break the rhythm of the film.

Again as a Scorsese film fan I am really surprised and disappointed that I didn't like this film but I'm also shocked that generally the film's got very good reviews, it really didn't do anything for me and I found it to rank on the lower side of average.

Frozen 2.

My punishment for having well behaved kids for a change. Started awful (any excuse and they just had to burst into song) but halfway through got a bit more interesting, if predictable. I didn't fall asleep though. Someone needs to flame thrower that ******* snowman though

Last Christmas

Not my choice of film either, but I actually quite enjoyed this.

I saw this too, it was pretty good for a low budget film.

Absolutely agree with you here- saw the 5 star reviews and thought it’d be a classic. The de-ageing techniques look awful!

Wow I have just watched Once Upon a Time.... In Hollywood and I thought it was brilliant.

Brilliant on so many levels, the imagery and mood that he paints so well, the quality, the small touches, the music, the crazy bat-shit stuff that goes on, immersing us in a world that we've read and heard so much about and crossing all the threads over and chucking in cultural and iconic references to intertwine it all.

I really really enjoyed it Yes - genius.

That's a shame. I know a little bit about the link below, so may have viewed it from a different perspective.

Don't want to spoil anything for people who haven't watched it. However, if you've seen it then have a look at this :

A documentary on Netflix about The Satanic Temple. Completely different than you'd imagine a documentary about Satanists would be, they're pretty much modern day hippies

Watched Rambo - Last Blood last night and it is a poor film. Give it 3/10.

Invent a back story the filmmakers do not really care about and then get lots of 'bad men' back to his place and kill them in different ways and in the end, he wins in under 90 minutes (something Arsenal cannot do at the moment).

Also - While you expect a certain amount of violence - some was bordering on Horror.
The Rambo character goes from saving someone on 5 minutes to Jason / Freddy / Leatherface by 70 minutes.

The Accident Guy (Sky movies)

Very enjoyable Lock Stock type of film. Scott Adkins (not heard of him before) is fun as the martial artist hitman who dispatches grisly deaths.
