I recently worked for CPFC as a scout for the pre academy 7-9yr olds I constantly had players I had taken into palace drifting to Chelsea/Fulham/Brighton because of the general run down facilities at the National Sports centre and the feedback from the coaching staff about the kids to the parents was awful, it was at times embarrassing to see the coaching side as well no wonder we struggle with our intake

Ive said it a number of times that i am disappointed at the lack of committment to the youth setup at Palace. I have to believe that the club believe that spending money on premiership wages is more beneficial than the academy. Not my preferrence, but they may be right.

I won't name names but I know a few coaches involved with our academy and in all honesty I find it staggering that they are employed by a professional football club!

It's much more complicated than it seems. SP is trying his best to sort out a new training ground for the Academy.

I agree this takes time but there is no excuse for the other factors that need addressing and yes I did raise my concerns

Most other clubs who want a proper training ground have managed to get one despite the inevitable difficulty. Not blaming Parish in particular but the state of the Palace Academy is inexcusable

If Youngster's with talent choose other clubs, then who can blame them.

Palace has always been an amateur operation, no matter who's been in charge. There's something in the water in South London.

Not true.

The Academy/Youth Team was supplementing the first team extremely well from the early 90's all the way through to 2013.

I agree we have not adapted the academy well since promotion but prior to that it worked really well IMO.

It needs proper oversight get in a someone who's sole role is to improve the youth set up integrate the set up with the clubs ethics and ideals and try to produce the Palace players of the future
It's not cheap in the short term but in the long term will pay dividends as we are not a club who can continue to pay sky high transfer fees
Everton and Southampton and to some extent Tottenham are examples of what can be achieved with a little foresight

We had a wonderful academy right back to the 1970s
The team of the 80s was effectively our academy team
Noades allowed it to wither on the vine and the Jordan re-envogorated it until he was childish over the FA tribunal decision (but what else would you expect from anything to do with the FA - not fit for purpose and never has been)

In general, it is true. During that period, it was a matter of necessity, but nevertheless a good thing.

agreed - it died from 80-86 - But then Shaw and Salako came through and the 90's produced the bisto kids not too mention the Admin team of 99 so we did ok before SJ.

Posted this on the Jonathan Benteke thread, but it's relevant here too:
