Lots of goalkeepers lose form and then bounce back. I expect De Gea to fall into that category, and it may be that the same applies to Butland? From a psychological perspective it must be hard to maintain performance in a Championship team going nowhere, with those golden handcuffs firmly in place due to the big Premier League contract he was on. (Rightly or wrongly.) Obviously it's not certain he will recapture top form, but coming in behind Guaita takes the pressure off. Even if he's just a back-up keeper it should be decent business. However let's not forget that VG is 33, so he's 6 years younger. I have high hopes that he can win the shirt, and be Palace's No1 for many years to come.

Cracking signing if we can pull it off.
Have to agree, I think Stoke have been on a downward spiral for many years, the injury came at the worst time and he has proven he is capable of being a top keeper.

I believe if we use him correctly, get him working with Kiely this is an upgrade on Hennessey which we have needed since he signed for us back in 2014.

Not expecting miracles, but I think he would be decent for us.

Trouble with that is that a young goalkeeper needs games so would surely need to go out on loan?

Vorm is temporary but Niasse is permanent.

(There actually is a Senegalese keeper called Babacar Niasse).

For what it is worth if we can get Jack Butland's confidence sorted he would be an excellent bit of competition for Guaita, a very decent keeper on his day with plenty of Premier League experience.

For me his confidence started to take a knock after wrongly in my opinion missing out on the England number 1 job to Pickford for the 2018 World Cup. Must be a right kick in the teeth having a blinder of a season (even in a relegated team) only to not get the job to a lesser keeper because he can kick the ball a bit.

His big Prem wages might be a problem if he expects to keep them

Most of pals are pompey fans unfortunately, they all say Bass is way to prone to mistakes, albeit a good shot stopper, has no authority on the pitch and hardly speaks which causes mix ups and problems from set pieces mainly.

If he wants to revitalise his premier league career with one year left on his current deal with the form he’s been in he’ll take whatever palace are offering imo

Millwall need cash 4 million would do it 4 years left in him then . Phillips at Charlton decent and improving

Not the same player since his injury, but as a backup he isn't any worse than what Henno provides.

You may or may not be right, but how often have you yourself watched both keeper's over the last two years to be able to make the comparison?

Saw an alert from the Athletic saying we are on the cusp of signing him but link appears to have disappeared and no direct link on Crystal Palace page.

Edit: Now found - Fifield reporting we are due to sign on 3 year contract.
