No, I don't agree if you're saying the subjective nature of 'errors ' makes these stats invalid. Whatever the criteria for an error it is presumably applied consistently to all of the players listed. These are Premier League career stats, so quite a significant sample of data too.

I think you may have misread their conclusion. For me they offer strong factual support for what I had already suspected - that people who say Sakho's game is error-strewn are mistaken!

Yep, he had a shockers at Spurs & he won't need anyone to tell him that, but a fit Sakho would be my first choice centre-back every time!
First game back after an injury so I would give him a bit of slack. He'll come good.

A great example (and I know it is going back a while - but it sticks in my mind) was in the dying seconds of the Palace 2 vs Chelsea 1 game in October 2017 where he did a crazy blind back heel right into the 6 yard box. WTF!!!???
That was one of the things I remember. Maybe because his mistakes are so obvious they stick in the mind more than lesser but still significant mistakes by others.

I do agree however that he seems to have the ability to improve whoever he is playing with in the CB position and make them look better and that is definitely a plus point in his favour.

That's kind of what I'm getting at. I think his style of play and awkward stature make him seem like a series error is just around the corner, when in fact it's a fairly rare event.

The most underappreciated player we have. Palace Dads have never quite "got" him and always get on his case for the one brain fart a game he has (that he usually cleans up anyway) while ignoring his excellent contribution to build up in breaking lines and his positional intelligence that enables him to always be in the right place to intercept and or clear it

First start back from a long injury, he will deliver. NQAT.

Injured again. Brilliant player but can a club like ours afford someone injured so often?

You have to also think having the likes of Tomkins and Sakho injured so often means we need 5 senior cbs on big contracts just to cover injures. Most clubs 5th choice cbs will be youth players on little money and dont get a look in, whilst we need Dann badly again.

Yes true a very big outlay he is like the Rolls Royce that never comes out of the garage!

In my opinion he is the best centre back i have seen play for the club since 1980. Thorn, Young, Coleman were good but not up to his level.

Don't think it is fair to take a few seasons in isolation as sometimes players get hit with serious injuries but if you look at his career he has missed a fair bit of football curtailing his career.

He’s our best CB. But, wages and injuries mean he’s the sort of player we should be trying to move on.

Cahill and Tomkins. Kelly as a very good backup. Look for someone younger as a 4th choice and either get Dann’s contract down and off the books or get it lowered.

The wages to minutes ratio of Benteke and Sakho is part of the reason our finances are a mess.

No, and he needs to be sold. Great player but a liability injury wise. I think his contract is up at the end of next season so we’ll have a decision to make this summer but he needs to be moved on now. He must have played less than half the games he has been available for since joining us, and his injury record before joining us was terrible.

Have to say both signings made me feel very uncomfortable at the time. I thought it was my ‘small team’ mentality. I think when you’ve been through two administrations (3 if you count the absolute debt ridden mess Noades inherited), then you feel very edgy about big fees paid. I just hoped it was a case of our American partners subsidising the deals.

Have to say I felt uneasy back in ‘89 when we broke the goalkeeping record to bring Big Nige here for a million. He hadn’t played higher than the third tier I think at that point. Let’s just say I was very quickly reassured.

We know the situation with Benteke and not finding a suitable buyer due to his poor form, but would there be any serious takers for Sakho with his injury record; and as brilliant as he is for us, his weekly moments of madness?

I think there are a lot of similarities between Sakho and Wilf’s situations. Both rightly believe they are step above in quality than the rest of our squad (bar Cahill), and yet they haven’t quite got the whole package for different reasons that would persuade a top club to find them an attractive proposition. The proof is that both have played for ‘top clubs’ and been released. They need to do better if that’s what they aspire to. It doesn’t seem fair on them but that’s the harsh reality IMO.

I think i'd prefer Cahill for another 2 years than Sakho - and Cahill is 4 years older but less injury-prone.
