I love Jeff and am so pleased he continues sticking it to some of the fans who scapegoat him. They are all starting to look a little foolish now.

Meyer still the better player in my opinion.
You must be basing that on reputation from Germany (and games which you may or may not have ever seen). Schlupp has done significantly more in a palace shirt than Meyer has. Not saying Meyer won't get better, but as it stands Jeff gets in the team over Meyer for me.

They aren't looking foolish at all! If a player isn't playing well they will obviously get criticism and rightly so. This "I told you so" Brigade we have on here is so pretentious and boring. If scapegoats are made there reasons behind it, if they play well, they do and will receive credit as do all of our players do.

No, I never watched the Bundesliga. Both completely different players but Meyer is a better passer, has better vision, better ball control, better dribbling and is much more technically gifted.

Schlupp is stronger, faster, better athlete and has a better shot on him.

I'm afraid that they do look foolish to me, particularly those that continued to ridicule him this season.
What you describe as pretentious and boring, I see as insightful and balanced. Each to their own, I guess!

Yep. It is actually possible for a people to change their minds on a player based on their performances.

Schlupp hasn't been good for us overall but has shown significant improvement in the last month or two, and rightly has been praised as such as he was criticised for lacking in quality previously.

My view is a positive one where we are now talking about which very decent player starts.

I said on another thread our squad is smaller but quality is now better.

Look at those who left in January.

I think it is a good position to be in.

Should see us safe in the league and who knows what the cup draw will bring.

Overall JS &MM both did pretty well.

Just felt we didn't hold the ball up too well up front.

Going forward hes probably our biggest goal threat and love watching him take defenders on in the way that Wilf used to (direct, heading straight towards the goal).

Defensively hes awful. Frequently switches off and lets his man go, leading to chances. Also his touch is woeful and passing aint much better so frequently puts us under pressure when playing out from the back.

He's a truck with the ball. Steams right past people. Love to see him and Bakary Sako pulling plows is they're a pair of oxen.

They aren't very often credible ones. One of the main reasons is that a lot of people just like to blame one, or sometimes two, particular player(s) rather than accepting that football is usually down to how the collective performs.

I think he has always been better than a lot fans give him credit for. Or maybe it's the other way around, nowhere near as bad as a lot of people have made out.

That 'Jeff Schlupp - what's the point?' thread really sticks out as a prime example of that. It probably came after one of his weaker games but he had already shown that he can contribute after scoring a crucial goal on the opening day. He had already show in previous seasons that he can fill in and do a decent job at either left back or left mid. Not every player we have will always be great but recognising the value of squad players and their contribution is healthy. Criticising poor performances is fine but it so often strays into scapegoating.

Schlupp is a team player, happy to fill any role, this versatility is vital for the squad. The majority of our players only play in one position. Schlupp could play atleast 3 (LB, WM, CM) so even think he could do a job upfront. Lets forget when he played Centre Back...

Ward and Kouyate are the only other two who have played in Midfield and Defense, but I dont think Ward would cut it in CM. Kouyate at CB could only play alongside Tomkins, as Sakho and Kouyate would be too chaotic. Maybe Wan-Bissaka will push forward to winger one day like Gareth Bale, but that is about it for players who can play multiple positions.

Been saying the same all season. The only real utility he has is his directness and shooting ability, something we sorely lack as a team. If no one else is able to make a go of it as CF this season, I'd be happy for Jeff to play an advanced role.

He was a striker when in Leicester's youth set-up and even went on trial at Man Utd as a striker. I think he could do a job there. He certainly has an accurate shot on him.

He does lose concentration and sometimes his passing is erratic, but what an engine he has.

I know Max has his fans, but you know Roy will bring in Jimmy Mac on Saturday

That is an excellent summary. They are different players and not competing for the same position due to their different attributes. I would also add that Schlupp is far more suited to the physical game.

Schlupp is in good form and has earned a right to start. MM also earned the right to start after his WHU performance and his goal. If you want to keep the ball and play in runners MM is your man so both can start McArthur and Kouyate to miss out.

Jeff is also a very good header of the ball, in fact I think he wins more than anyone else in the team. That said Max's header for this goal was very well directed, he didn't have much pace to play with but he used it intelligently (great headed cross by AT as well, from a great forward ball by Lukas)

I don't think Max and Jeff are competing for the same position

Third match this season we have won without Wilf as well, has to be a good sign!
