It's quite something for Tories to defect. It's rare enough at local level, let alone MPs. They have many failings, but the Tories always seem to hold their shit together under the party banner. It's the only thing which unites them. So kudos to the Tory Three.

To put these three into context, only one Tory ever left to join the SDP.

Carswell and... erm... that other one. Ah! Reckless. That's it. Oh, and Bob Spink back in 2008. But in general, not many.

'It's not what I am' seems to be the default excuse when saying something stupid like this, as if it was actually someone else that said it, or one's body was momentarily infiltrated by aliens.

Take accountability for what you did actually say, people.

Or better still - don't say it in the first place.

Yes to all of that. Hopefully heralding a greater Tory split.

Think it is one thing for a swivel-eyed loon to get a bit more swivel-eyed and loony and go further right, quite another to go left, even by microscopic measurements.

How many more Tory defections are needed so that even with the DUP, May does not have a majority in Westminster?

Blairites? Soubry?

Plenty of time for a manifesto. Don't need one until an election. Measure a politician by what they do, not the pretty words that they write.

This is what we all want to see. I remember Soubrey recently saying that if she had to choose between Brexit and Corbyn, she'd choose Brexit so I think we've got a pretty good idea what their policy platform is going to be; more of the same.

The only interesting bit is just exactly what level of bullshit are we going to have to put up with in terms of media spin that this is all "new" and "radical" and "a break with tradition" etc etc when it's the exact opposite. A load of arse-polishing, time servers trying to recreate the conditions that existed when their careers looked like they might be going somewhere.

Well Soubrey and the Blarites are now in the same party and her voting record is not exactly 100% socialist.

Hmm.

It seems a bit of a shame that when someone tries to do something new, people insist on attaching outdated, pejorative labels to them.

I could understand that from those who feel betrayed (such emotions are ugly things though) but from a rational person?

She didn't fight Osborne's austerity or benefit cuts. Nor is this going to stop a hard brexit. Probably the opposite.
