They were. But their success came mid 90’s. So yes, plenty of time for influence, don’t you think ?

Bloke wrote some jingle jangly tunes for a bit.

Spent a lot of time whining.

Poetry set to music. Hilarious at times, poignant too.

Just a brilliant and original set up. Nothing like them before and nothing since.

And I'm not even a huge fan but I appreciate near genius when I hear it. Some of their tracks are 10/10 and the duff ones you can count on one hand.

The Queen is Dead is in my top 10 albums ever.
Brilliant post.

I'm staggered at the amount of ego shown on these music threads. There's obviously a lot of frustrated wannabes on the BBS that never made it. It's sour grapes, like that bitter ex-academy footballer, down the pub, who got dropped by Chelsea at 15 and doesn't like football.

They were a great band that's for sure. Great marriage whilst it lasted between a fantastic lyricist/original voice, God like guitar player and a wonderfully under-rated rhythm section. Barely a duff song over 5 very productive years. Let's be thankful Jonny knocked on Morrissey's door.

Hate to say it, but Morrissey is a complete crashing bore and ass now. As the late Crystal Palace fan Sean Hughes quipped "Everyone grows out of their Morrissey phase.....except Morrissey!"

Anyway...Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want...

One of the best B sides ever surely?

I’d go for Rubber Ring as the best Smiths B side but the standard was consistently high until the later days.

On the subject of B sides....Adam Ant was a curious artist whose B sides were often as good if not better than his A’s.

Do you not have an issue with him being a racist, islamaphobic supporter of Tommy Robinson then? I’d have a hard ******* time listening to the the music of someone who was a genuinely nasty piece of work like he is.
