So that’s about £1500 the tax payer will be paying to keep him for 10 weeks in prison maybe a fine and community service would make more sense

One of the most dislikeable 'pundits' out there. Just got a job through his mates, zero talent whatsoever for it.

Whether he's a good pundit or not is open to question. What is beyond dispute is he is a drunk driver with a criminal conviction.

Serves him right. Zero sympathy.

Criminal conviction, yes, drunk driver, not proved. His conviction is for refusing a breath test.

Should have been a suspended sentence or better a 5 year ban. A prison sentence is ott. I prefer to keep people out of prison.

Only heard him on the radio last couple of days. He really talks a load of twaddle and can’t believe he actually thought he could be a manager. His perspective on things are really quite skewed and basic.

Much difference ? And Saunders pleaded guilty.
Plead guilty at the second hearing, after not guilty at the first

So wasting the courts time and public money

Not sure why there was a need for a second hearing though

Probably, its likely that unless he was in an accident to very over the limit he'd have got 10 weeks custodial. You'd likely need prior history for a prison sentence or be on a suspended or parole.

In the 70s and 80s you used to get six months if you drove on a drink drive ban or got done for DD three times. Is that still the case?

Not proved because he refused the breath test. No defence for me.

I have no tolerance for people who drink and drive.

I won't drive even after one personally, just don't see the point.

In the time he had to think about it when being stopped I think he probably thought which would be the least offence, being ballbagged behind the wheel or refusing the test and taking the punishment for that. His refusal I would assume meant he had drank substantially more than the two pints.

Pure guess work on my part though.

You don’t tell the Police how much you’ve had to drink then get punished on that

The test at the station does that, if you refuse it then they are in their rights to throw the book at you.

I appreciate they don't go by what you say. There is only on theory that I can think of why he refused the test and that's because of the amount he had drank. I'm assuming he thought the sentence for refusing the test would be less than the figures it would have shown up had he taken the test.
