If you refuse the test they are in their rights to give you the harshest punishment available

You may aswell take the test and hold your hands up.

Pure guess work on my part though.
He was wrong then, wasn't he

Likelihood of jail for DD at the roadside is very, very low

Reading between the lines, I would suggest he was an arsehole when stopped and refusing, then in the station, and then initially pleading not guilty to a black or white charge he was clearly guilty of

Judge probably thought he was just a twat wasting public money and his time

(No facts to back that view up, just how it looks to me)

Isn't there some sort of loophole? Not producing a specimen means you don't have a drink driving charge on your sheet so you can still hire cars and/or work as a courier or something after the ban. I'll await a barstool lawyer to arrive & put me right.
Or maybe he had some unadulterated child's piss taped to the inside of his leg (the Withnail dodge)?

Made himself look an absolute dick by the sound of things;

Saunders, who was capped by Wales 75 times, was slurring and had to prop himself up against his Audi A8 car when he was asked to get out of the vehicle, Chester Magistrates' Court heard.
Jailing Saunders, District Judge Nicholas Sanders called him "arrogant"

The father of three looked crestfallen when he realised he was going to jail.

"Throughout these proceedings you have shown yourself to be arrogant, thinking you are someone whose previous and current role in the public eye entitles you to be above the law," District Judge Sanders said.
"In fact the opposite is true - someone in the public eye should expect a deterrent sentence when they flout the law."

I've never liked Saunders but I don't know why.

I did enjoy his quick thinking to aim a throw-in off a retreating keeper's back to score a goal. I think that was Saunders anyway.

A refusal to give a sample (without justifiable reasoning) has to be worse than the punishment for being convicted of DD.

So his A8 had to prop him up. After two pints - yeah okay gov . This definitely leads me to believe he was shit faced and definitely not two pints down. He took a gamble by refusing to do the test and is now paying for it. Gamble failed.

I was always advised to not blow if you got tugged and you were obviously over the limit. I assume this became quite a problem and they clamped down on it. Like you said I was told you get an instant ban but no dr10 on your licence which was less of an issue going forward. Probably all bullshit but in them days you didnt have google to call people out on everything that got said after 10 pints. Thank God.

Agree with the throw on thing. Very clever.

But as for why we dislike him... I was going to post the Clough story, but I see someone has already got there. He just has an annoying, misplaced arrogance and whilst he's not in the same leagues as people like Jim White, he still deserves some contempt.

I was going to mention this - Didn't Saunders put in a tackle that effectively ended Elliott career ? And Elliott tried to take him to court ?
