Good riddance. They should increase the focus on investigating the bullying allegations. Horrid man.

Bit odd that.
It was an informal grouping on campus designed to appeal to the local BNP members of which his mate Stuart Millson was one (whilst also being in the Federation of Conservative Students). Here is a bit more about Stuart Millson just after he left Essex To view the link you have to Register or Login

Another slap for the Tories. Other than the Tory Remainers and the odd MP the entire front bench and the rest of his party sat on their hands when the opposition gave him a round of applause.

Possible but unlikely. I live in the constituency - he is not liked and done sod all for the area since he became speaker. And this was before brexit (and our area was marginally remain I think)

You'd need a bit more than that to tie anything to Bercow.

This is more relevant to what you're trying to say.

You don't think that in the last 33 years he has changed his attitudes and behaviour? Personally I like his provocative style and defense of parliament in difficult times.

An hour on the Speaker v. proroguing Parliament, which do you think worse?

He's fine with the PM shutting down Parliament for 5 weeks to avoid any scrutiny though

A hero for parliamentary sovereignty. He may be a bit of a bully but that was what was needed at a crucial time for our democracy. Only those who thought they might lose a vote on any permitted issue for debate in the house, feared or loathed him.

Absolutely.

You could have added that most of the media hated him as well because he wouldn't do what their foreign owners wanted.

Knowing that the most toxic MPs - Gove, Johnson, Truss, Loathsome, Patel etc - hate him speakers volumes for his effectiveness.

Er, other than I saw him most days on campus knocking around with obnoxious people like Millson. My abiding memory of him though was him standing up in a union debate and arguing that tampons should be taxed at the full rate of VAT as they weren't essential items. I suppose it stood him in good stead for standing up to a baying crowd in the Commons.

All I was saying was that your initial post didn't show anything substantive towards the two being linked in any way.

For someone like myself who doesn't know much about him, it just seemed unrelated.

Three days is the extended time. The rest of the shut down is standard for party conference season.

Any shutdown beyond a few days is unjustifiable, considering the timeframe and current crisis. You're an idiot or a rabid brexiter if you think it is.
