Thank the Lord!

I loved that show when it first came out. Funnily enough, it really inspired so many young people like myself to become politically informed. I just hope the writing is as good as it was when the show started and not what it became in the end. There was some big names working on it first time around: Steve Coogan, Harry Enfield, Hugh Dennis, Rory Brenner, Ade Edmondson, Ben Elton, Jo Brand, Richard Curtis, Stewart Lee, Ian Hislop...

Let’s hope it goes for the jugular again. It really was shocking and cutting edge at the time.

Chris Barrie (Red Dwarfs Rimmer) did a lot of the voices and is a really good impressionist, can do almost anyone's voice really well. Rory Bremner is good too being able to do the monotone Major, the earnest but trying too hard Blair and the jumpy Robin Cook voices with a high degree of accuracy.

Hopefully they bring them back as accuracy is important to the humour, problem with Alec Baldwin's Trump and the Trump used on The Simpsons and Family Guy is it doesn't really sound much like him (which is odd as his Noo Yawk know it all accent should be simple to do) so the jokes fall flat.

The likelihood is, although hopefully not, that it won't be as good second time around. As bubbs said, it was cutting edge first time round and it was fresh & new. Time, tastes & comedy, generally, move on, and there's a danger that when shows like this get Brough back, that it ends up looking like a failed attempt to recreate the past.

The funniest sketch (that I can recall) was when Maggie T was sat chairing a cabinet meeting when a waiter came in and took her order for dinner. It went something like - Waiter - 'and what may I get the prime minister for dinner'. She replies ' I'll have the beef'. Waiter - 'and the vegetables?' Maggie - 'they'll have the same as me'

Genius

There's no need to bring back Spitting Image, just watch the Parliament channel instead.

Remember the media outcry when early on a rumour went round that they were daring to saterise the Queen Mother. ‘They’ve gone too far this time!’ was the accusation, and so viewing figures were increased as everyone watched that Sunday evening, only for the programme to get to the end without her appearance. Then as the credits finished her puppet double appeared on screen apologising for forgetting to turn up earlier.

The songs were always very well done.

It was well on the wane long before it ended.
Can't see it being anything other than disappointing.
