We played as if they were Barcelona/Real Madrid/ Bayern Munich combined. City are not THAT good. . They will not win the League. They will not do anything in Europe. And other teams, no better than us, will beat them this year. Hope we do better next week.

Cant remember a home game where we let the away team fully dominate us for most of the first half - we should of made it scrappy and got up them - too much respect given.

We were terrible and on another day would have lost 7-0.But it's not a bad game to be terrible in as they are 1 of 2 sides far better than us.

I think the fact we have had so many big scalps has spoilt a few people.

We have Joel Ward at right back against Raheem Stirling, McArthur and Kouyate against Silva and De Bruyne and people are annoyed because we didn’t attack them? Seriously.

I think Hodgson’s record against these teams maybe suggests that our approach is spot on. We’re not going to win every time.

Think having Townsend on just gave us a bit of width and someone who could run with the ball . Credit to Hennessey thought he was very good today ,
i was a bit disappointed we just sat back and let them play, then once we finally got the ball back a bad touch gave it back to them ,wasting the hard work. should have played the burnley way and launched balls into the box to big ben, they would've shit themselves.

Totally agree with you. They gave us no time on the ball whatsoever and their high press is impressive. There was a moment when Wilf was free and Sterling went after him like his life depended on it and won the ball.

My only criticism of the game today was the team selection. Luka should have been left on the bench and Townsend should have started instead of Schlupp, and for tactical reasons I would have started Benteke to give their makeshift CB’s something to deal with in the air.

Nail on the head.

Interestingly far more positivity in our part of the main stand about our performance even from those who normally moan their way through a match. Most recognise that City are in a different class to most of the Premier league, phenomenal amount of money to spend. Oil rich bastards up against the Palace Paupers.

Arsenal away next week should be a doddle

Palace fans in "I didn't realise we need a proper number 9" shock. Underlines how utterly remarkable our points haul is under His Royness despite him not actually being able to field a discernible football team. The last Arsenal away team/ performance wasn't all that long ago, I'd like to think we could follow similar lines but if Roy doesn't feel he can play Tekkers I have to accept he has very good reason, extremely painful (watching) though that reality is.

I said to my son before kickoff that if they closed us down faster then west ham we were in for a very difficult match. City's work rate was impressive and they treated the game as a must win.

Luka was disappointing for me, silly to give away a yellow in such early stages of the game. Team played much better after the subs.

Never thought we were going to win this one so not really bothered. Game was a good watch second half.

Cahill and Henno did really well. Feel bad for Ayew, he really has a thankless job.

The thing is, unless he wins every single long ball pumped up to him, the ball simply comes back to us with the remaining 10 men deep in our half.

Playing out from the back at least gives the team a chance to push higher as a group.

Playing that way wouldn’t have changed the result and half the team would be getting dogs abuse for ‘going missing all game’ even though it was bypassing them throughout.

The killer blow was the second goal. 1-0 at half time and I think the game pans out differently, with City becoming nervous and is being able to change the style. But at 2-0 it’s a big ask to make a significant dent, let alone alter the outcome.

Pleased to come away with 2-0 as that could easily have been 4 or 5. They were class and tore into us from the start. We obliged by passively standing off them. Certainly no disgrace but it’s a shame we didn’t at least give it a go second half.

Hennessey - 7 - some good saves but he looked very flappy first half an hour and I think he could have done better with the second goal.
Ward - 6 - they targeted him but I thought he was solid enough.
Tomkins - 5 - looked rusty but not surprising given how long he has been out.
Cahill - 6 - good but not sure if he or Tomkins were at fault for the first goal.
PvA - 6 - didn’t defend as badly as usually and put in a great corner for the Benteke header.
Luka - 6 - another booking and I thought it was right to sub him.
McArthur - 5 - one of his poorer games but gives everything.
Kouyaté - 6 - good energy and workrate but no creativity.
Schlupp - 4 - really poor. Nothing came off for him and he was a passenger for 55 minutes until subbed. Hopefully Townsend will now be restored.
Zaha - 5 - thought it was one of his worst games but he did have one very good shot. Playing on the right doesn’t suit him.
Ayew - 6 - held it up well first half but faded.

Subs
Townsend - 6 - thought he did well and put in a good cross or two.
Benteke - 6 - can’t remember much other than the header which was unlucky.
Dann - not on for long but nearly gifted them a third.

Give us 6 or 7 £65m players and then see what happens. btw our whole starting 11 cost less than Rodri!
