If this is true I don’t think it’ll be a Roy loan as when he was asked in jan about Brewster (apparently we were linked to loaning him then too) he debunked the idea by saying we are not interested in him in any way

Not really much to elaborate on. Don't believe we're in for him and don't think a sketchy source on Twitter should get anyone excited.

Good player though, ready for the step up.

Brewster needs to prove himself at the top level before Liverpool think of giving him a chance. We might be an option. Sure our friends at West Ham and Newcastle could look at him. Leeds possibly. Cheap option for a year especially with nine subs. Surely makes sense to use two domestic loans and possibly one from abroad in this financial climate.

Why should we be 'tight' in funds?

Am I missing something here? Why should we be limited to loans not just because they are good value for money but out of financial necessity?
I think we know money is tight. We lost a ridiculous amount of money the season before the one just finished (I think I read £30m mentioned) and frankly this one is unlikely to be much different. We have four players (Sakho, Benteke, Meyer and Wilf) pulling something close to £25m a year between them out of the club. That is going to financially cripple any club of our size, especially when only Wilf is making any meaningful contribution on the pitch. The AWB fee basically just plugged that gap for two years.

And even selling Wilf wont make that much difference. The final figure will probably be no more than Arsenal's £40m loss year (and may be less). That leaves about £32m after the wankers have taken their cut. Half of which will go straight to paying the wages of the three dead wood players referred to above. And as for selling them, in the nicest possible way dream on. We might gte £5-£10m for Sakho if we are lucky, but the other two have little or no value. Just getting them off the wage bill would be a result.

So by Prem standards, money will be tight. If we can get a decent cover winger (Oseyi-Samuels would be great here imho), a genuine first choice winger to replace Wilf (perhaps Fraser on a free), an exciting attacking midfielder for a lesser League (such as Eze), a cheap young centre half prospect (if we can shift Sakgho) and a quality striker loan, then we will have done well. . .especially as Ferguson has already come in.

We'd be looking at a total outlay of £25-£30m with the above (plus the Ferguson fee of course), which would see us roughly break even. We'd also have five younger players here long term which starts to address the squad age issue. But that wouldn't lave much cash for the much needed striker, so a quality loan would be great here . . . . .whether Brewster is thaty quality loan is another matter of course, but his Swansea performance suggest he might be.

Either way, money will be tight again this summer, and we need to be prepared for that

Smells like BS. We weren't in for him before as Roy said he couldn't offer him game time. Game him to Greenwood no contest.

Are you sure it's as dire as that?

Let's assume we will want to clear £40m after the Wanker's slice. I don't think we will let Zaha go for as little as you say, even given his recent performances / attitude and his immense wages. Forced to stay another season might see him give 100% just to get away from us, at which point, we're better keeping him than letting him go for effectively £32m.

As you say, getting shot of 2 out of 3 of Benteke, Sakho and Meyer is a priority and lets say we do that. We should get near to £10-15M and will save ourselves around £10M wages.

That gives us a war chest of £40M + 10-15M + 10M = £65-70M total. The key will be paying less in wages on new players or we are getting back to square one but leave that for the moment...

So £65-70M to spend. Are we really not going to spend a penny outside of the outlay for Ferguson, especially after losing a massive player like Zaha, plus at least two from a center forward, center back and a midfielder? Even if we only chucked in £10M and reserved the rest of our money for wage commitments to both existing and incoming players, we should be able to spend at least £75m.

Say we actually get Eze and his mate Bright, ( Mark II ) (circa £25m ) Fraser ( free ) and went and blew £25M on a striker. We'd still have another £25M left. Maybe another striker. The key will be to avoid more £100Kpw players. If we can keep it down to £70Kpw (which given the times shouldn't be impossible ) we might be able to swing it.

Fair enough, we're both picking figures out of the air and aren't exactly privy either to the club's accounts or spending intentions but I can't believe we'll be forced to be a miserly as you picture. For all our sakes, you better not be right!

I'd be happy to have him. Yeah we might just develop him for Liverpool but he's probably going to have to be shit hot to get a chance with them anytime soon. So there is also the chance he does well for us and can try to buy him in the future.

Also, some short term improvements to the team are welcome anyway. We might struggle to buy all the players we need for next season.

Why does every season feel like starting all over again. We should be past making these sort of loans by now.

The AWB money went on paying the debt for Sakho and Benteke (apparently).
