You have no evidence for that, the Ferguson Imperial model of 0.5 million deaths hasn't happened anywhere in any country even those that did nothing. The NHS was never overwhelmed. It was just wrong, don't cling to that model.

Gupta, Oxford, appears to have been right in her estimation.

Schools remained open for under 16s

Interesting approach Sweden's, in contrast Denmark closed down hard and early but was open back up early and seems to have escaped relatively unscathed.

Sweden's economy is down but not to the same extent as everyone else's. Swedes were supportive but are now less so because of the death toll. What they failed to do was properly protect care homes, had they done that their approach might have been more successful.

Swedes are very isolated no one wants them in their country, borders are closed. However you do wonder if there is a 2nd wave how much immunity has been built and whether they will be better of than others

What it does show is how woeful our approach has been - neither here nor there. Too long a lock down because we locked down way too late, no protection of care homes, no herd immunity and an economy in ruins.

Even Sweden had proportionally less deaths than us

Norway got it absolutely right by closing borders early as one example only. 250 deaths out of over 5 million people speaks for itself

1st August, fans will be able to attend 'grassroots' football (friendlies). This is classed as Non-league step 7 and below, so probably football clubs most people have never heard of.

Maybe, need more data around density of people and death rates.

It’s a nonsense comparison, even if early close borders has helped their cause..........large country, tiny population Spread out......and not an international transit and business hub unlike the UK (and in particular London)......that said...I agree we should have locked down sooner and frankly as soon as it was evident what was occurring in Wuhan in Jan and feb....the world should have isolated China in terms of travel....even when it was kicking off in Spain and Italy in March we just sat back and watched

Who knows how much damage was done by allowing the Liverpool home European tie to be staged with 3,000 away fans from Spain in attendance at Anfield just before the pandemic struck.

Not as much as releasing untested geriatrics into care homes

I have no issue with the risk. If we were all spaced out however, I'm guessing the people I sit with won't be there at the same time. I'm doubtful there'd be any sort of atmosphere. I suspect it'd all be a bit shit.

Renewed my carshalton season ticket , not sure I’ll be back at palace until things are back to normal ! Zero interest in going with massive gaps around the ground !. Be interesting how they deal with this , I’ve had a season ticket for 36 years .

If clubs are only going to be allowed about a third of their capacity back in, I'm not sure how they are going to be able to accommodate all season ticket holders or even sell season tickets at all. Will away fans ever be able to return?
Just don't know how it's going to be possible to sort those conundrums out.
Will it ever be the same?

I read somewhere that there was talk of screening fans on the way in by taking their temperature. I have a long journey to Palace - I know that I am not alone in this - and I also have to cross the most expensive stretch of water in the world on my trip. I wouldn't consider travelling if this was so, I would be livid had I made the journey and then was refused entry. Not Palace's fault I know, but I would not take the chance.

I think the big thing was the half term weeks in February when people from all over Europe went on skiiing holidays in Northern Italy. It seemed to fall right after Chinese New Year when there was a lot of travel from Wuhan to Lombardy. Perfect storm.

We still haven’t had the call out for our season tickets at Atlético, yet. My feeling is that if the fans can’t get in, people are going to lose interest in watching football on the telly as well. Football will lose its mojo.
