He won't get a proper crack here these days.
Things like this make me think relegation wouldn't be a bad thing

The fact that he made the bench for one game last season must mean that the club thinks highly of him, but everyone knows that breaking into a Premier League team is very hard for youngsters these days. Hopefully we can stay safe in mid table all season so the likes of him can get a game or two.

25 senior players on high wages who need to be involved to keep morale high, you can only select 18 for a match. Thats why its hard to break in, and you have to be good to do it. I want to see youngsters break in but people make out its a malicious move by the club to not play them.

Its easy to say that AJ but when you have CY Lee complaining to the press about a lack of chances and Mariappa winding his contract down; these result in poor morale around the dressing room, senior players in the squad need to be respected otherwise why have 25?
Even if one youngster is included on the bench, only 3 get on the pitch. The only time you would risk it over a senior in the same position is if we were coasting to victory, even though it is dangerous to do this in the Premiership with every point vital. Jonny Williams made a cameo against Chelsea last season and plenty of people complained he passed sideways and didnt cause a threat (not what I thought) so Im sure plenty would complain if a youngster came on and we lost. I want to see youngsters come through, but I object to it being used as a swipe at the management. Pardew needs to keep 25 players happy and in form first, so they can come in if required, this gets over-looked. |

is there something wrong with me enjoying seeing palace produce young players that play for the first team?

No but to say you sometimes think of relegation so you can see the odd young player is fairly odd.

If we hadn't had such a disastrous second half of the season we might have seen a few more youngsters blooded, likewise if we weren't fighting for our lives the previous two seasons the same thing could have been said.
Hopefully we will have a more stable season this year and it will give the opportunity for a few youngsters to play a few games towards the back end when we are safe and if we aren't near the Europa League places.

I said/implied things like youngsters coming through would mean it isn't all a bad thing. Not even implying I wish it would happen.

hmm, you maybe interpreted it that way. I never meant it that way.
You cant see that if we went down at least one positive might be you'd see some youngster get more of a chance to develop and become first team players?
