We have a worse team now than the one that started the first half of last season and struggled to score and was in the relegation until we brought in a centre forward.

We will be in the relegation zone until Christmas again and will pay over the odds in January to try and get us out of trouble.

Pretty much the only hope we have of survival is Roy.
Indeed.

First Freedman, now Hodgson, let the fans blame anyone but the real culprits - the Board.

we have little enough height in the team as it is, to take Benteke out would mean all our game played on the floor, as we cant string two passes together I cant see that working well.

so coaching isn't good enough then ?

Passing, set pieces and sloppy and slow in possession.

Buck stops with the manager I'm afraid.

You can't lay all the blame at one door.

- Roy is a stubborn bastard that won't change things when it's clearly not working. I kept thinking to myself yesterday, is this plan, surely we are going to surprise them in a minute and go for them - nothing occurred.

- I can forgive the board for not signing a RB after AWB left because JW is more than good enough in that position and we have others in the CB role that can cover if need be. What is frankly astonishing is that we didn't buy a striker AGAIN. To go into the season with Benteke, Connor and Ayew as your three forwards is madness. Wilf showed yesterday that he can't play up there with Benteke or he now doesn't give a shit; maybe both. You could put Andros and Wilf up top again but it worked for a short period last season and then teams worked us out. Benteke, Connor and Ayew will never score you enough goals to beat relegation - no chance.

- Players also need to look at themselves after yesterday and are far from blame. Their commitment to getting point/s yesterday was appalling. I wishes we had half of the desire and energy Sheff Utd had yesterday. Running around the pitch to make yourself look busy does not cut it.

The club is being mismanaged all over the shop, and not giving Roy at least a RB reeks of negligence (I am still angry about Freedman’s comments on that podcast).
We should have got another striker.

BUT…

We still have squad of players who are more than good enough to not play like we did yesterday.

If you were given that squad of players on Football Manager or FIFA, you wouldn’t pick a 4-4-2 Formation.

The straw that broke the camels back for me, was the predictable sub that was Schlupp coming on for Meyer.

See Christian Benteke, Crystal Palace 2016/17 (Ayew scored 7 when with Swansea too)

He has the ability to score 15 goals a season, has done it regularly in the PL. Pardew and Allardyce both had him scoring goals. They both knew you get into wide areas, deliver crosses and he would get you goals. Hodgson likes runners and we don't put crosses into the box. When we do it is from free-kicks and despite out atrocious record of scoring from them, Luka is still delivering his flighty balls in which often don't get near a Palace player and are easily defended.

Its a bit like the NFL, some teams have a running game, some have a throwing game. You need different players for each. We have the players for 1 and a coach that wants to play the other.

I think when Roy puts his teamsheet in to the ref an hour before KO he includes his 2 substitutions. He keeps one back in case of injury and if there isn't one he doesn't use it.

I was amazed when he took Townsend off though, you would have expected Wickham for Benteke, probably shows just how bad Townsend was.

Why does everyone go on about a RB. I would be looking for a LB. At least Ward is a full back.

The best set piece taker is PVA. Really whips the ball in, but hardly ever takes one.

Whilst its easy to build acase against the board, there's no way Hodgson should get off scott free

Yesterdays performance was a joke, irrespective of the board

The players available to him should have been capable of beating the Blades as they were nothing special

Instead we got an insipid, inept, display totally lacking in desire or tactical nous

That's down to coaching and management

The most worrying thing was how they just didn't seem to care. Even when a goal down, there was endless passing sideways, backwards and no movement off the ball. It was as if it didn't matter if they lost

Normally it needs a trusty terrible performance for everyone to have the kick up the backside and the manager to try something different. I think that is what we will see following this. As such it is much better to have happened this early.
