Me too, I always go for the nectarines. Eating a peach must be like French kissing a cat.

I'm disappointed if my tea isn't in a white, or off-white cup/mug. The outside can be whatever colour it wants. It's not something I'd bring up if I was in somebodies house and they presented me a cuppa in a blue mug, they'd just think I was an ungrateful oddball. I'd hate anyone to think me ingrateful.

When I was a kid walking home in the dark I used to duck down behind parked cars when I saw headlights coming down the road in case they were criminals or spies or something.

Eye contact. I’m in the middle of a conversation with someone, and then suddenly it’s as if my brain disconnects from the natural flow of the conversation and I start worrying where to look. ‘Am I staring too much at the person’s eyes?’ ‘Do I focus more on the left or right eye?’ ‘Does it look like I’m looking too long at spot on their face or an abnormality?’ Try and focus back into the thoughtless swing of the chat but it’s normally too late.

I don’t like my brain too much - it’s primary goal is to trip me up at every opportunity. What a bastard.

Agree - all the advice is to make eye contact but it feels really uncomfortable to do so.

I have never, ever been able to drink juice or water out of a ceramic mug. The thought of it turns my stomach.

I saw or read somebody suggest if you struggle to hold eye contact, stare at their forehead/forrid as they can't tell the difference. Maybe don't do it if they've had Botox or have a big zit as it might make them unduly uncomfortable.

Anything below say 30 letters and it's pretty much instantaneous - say up to one second. If you're talking 40 to 50 letters then it might take up to three seconds.

I suppose I have developed an informal mental database of common words, so for example I know the word 'anything' has 8 letters without even thinking about it. As such you can then break down phrases or short sentences into very basic maths, 8+5+3+7 or whatever.

You can then apply the same principles to more unusual words by breaking them down into syllables, for example taking an old Palace player at random 'Paul' obviously has 4 letters and 'Hinshelwood' I can immediately visualise as 11 letters, so 15 in total. Trent Alexander Arnold is 20 letters, I can see it immediately as 5+9+6.

Anyway fascinating and extremely useful stuff I'm sure you will agree. My wife sometimes persuades me to have a crack at a few more complicated ones at family gatherings, just so she and her relatives can laugh at the weirdo.

I know. Once the thought comes into your head the games over. Most of the time I’m in autopilot and everything is fine, but then the thought bounces in and start averting my eyes anywhere but the person.

I’ve read that too. That doesn’t work. They start getting self conscious and wonder if they’ve got something stuck on their forehead and start scratching it.
