Another case of a serious reinfection announced - thankfully it seems to be rare so far but does seem like immunity in these cases is pretty shortlived

Ordering them and getting them are two entirely different things, as we saw with PPE.

11 cases (none with more than mild symptoms) from 31.8 million, false negatives/positives surely?

Especially when you'd think many that record a positive result is even more likely to go about their lives pre-covid.

Quite possibly, although the confirmed reinfection cases have been analysed more closely than most.

My guess is something else is at play in these cases as, as you say, reinfection seems to be a very rare exception

On that point, are all physical samples being stored somewhere or being disposed of once a certain point is reached? Just wondering if samples can be tested after a certain amount of time or would the virus not die without any host?

I imagine with the sheer number of tests being delivered and the rush for results cross contamination of samples will definitely be an issue.

Judging by the description of symptoms first time around there's a decent chance at least some of these are false positives.

I don’t know about that, but reading a bit closer it seems that reinfections are only confirmed when the virus’ genetic makeup is significantly different - meaning a different strain.

So I guess they got infected with the D strain, and then the G strain (or vice versa) which might go some way to explain the rarity

Could be misunderstanding this though

not sure we bulk ordered loads of PPE months in advance.

Anyway, if you are in a vulnerable group you should be offered it earlier than most. Will you take it?

I would imagine he’s already sourced his own, if he hasn’t been provided with it already.

I will take my consultant"s advice on that, but more than likely, yes. The vaccine(s) that eventually win the race will have to satisfy particular criteria though.
