You're right Ruskin, it was in the league we lost 1-5 then a few weeks later we lost in the FA Cup 1-4 - got the two mixed up, was at both games..

If that (excellent) pic is from August 1969, then we were definitely pushing our luck.

Our first Div 1 game v Moan U was on Saturday 9th August!

And, finally, the main stand with the old enclosure.
I only ever stood there once. For the Anglo-Italian Cup match versus Inter Milan in 1971.

Anyone know what the chimney behind the houses on Park Road is for?
I did wonder if it was related to the old brick yard.

A better representation of the 'grass bank' on the Park Road terrace. Churned mud, as I remember it.

Great picture I’ve not seen before.

Re the grass banks, in, i think, 1968, the club shop which was in the Whitehorse end up in the corner where the Arthur now is, was robbed. A couple of weeks later the booty was found buried on the grass banking.

I remember if the early Seventies, there was a club shop where the chippy was at the junction of Park Road/Whitehorse Lane. Really dark, dusty and uninviting. I can only remember them selling rosettes, duffel bags and programmes. Still got a rosette bought in there.

Our lowest ever attendance . We were playing Leeds back in the day when we also wore all white .

As for the Chelsea game ROB mentions . I reckon it was way over the given crowd. The Ground had not changed since Burnley the season before, and I with hundreds of others got locked out of the Chelsea game. As we got absolutely belted I was not to despondent.

Amazing Pics thanks for posting just shows how much has been built around the ground in recent times.

So much standing capacity made it easy to just turn up and pay to get in!

Big crowds and atmosphere would loved to have been at the Burnley game in 79 but just before my time.

Actually Leeds brought hundreds that day. if you dig deeper into the archives you will see a photo taken minutes previously, where old grumpy Bert beckons them to "come have a go if they think they're 'ard enough." No Yorkshire man was brave, or foolish enough to take up the offer. They had all heard of mad Bert's exploits on the Somme.

Great photo's lads

I have one of the duffel bags, unused with tag label!
The guy who sold it to me found it in the attic of a seaside gift shop in Rhyl, where it had laid unsold for nearly 50 years!

Given the grass banking behind the terracing on three sides of the ground, the 45,384 attendance against Leeds on Saturday 6 March 1965 was probably very near the limit. You could have got a few more thousand in behind but they wouldn't have seen a thing.

I should add it would also depend on how much the directors would have wanted to understate the attendance given the vast majority paid cash on the door.
