Jeremy Corbyn
@jeremycorbyn

One week ago Donald Trump told Nigel Farage to make a pact with Boris Johnson.

Today, Trump got his wish.

This Trump alliance is Thatcherism on steroids and could send £500 million a week from our NHS to big drugs companies. It must be stopped

Gently reminder that new Labour under Blair offered Nhs contracts to the private sector to save on the treasury funds

Are you saying the government are acting illegally in having bodies such as Ofwat etc.

Industry is subject to all sorts of government regulation everywhere. Monopolies need tight regulation and we should tighten that regulation.

Interestingly Water Companies are not allowed to ever cut off supply. This has always been the case. Given that, what would stop the country *en masse refusing to pay water bills?

*as is kind of what happened in the Republic of Ireland by the way, when they first tried introduce charging for water in a country cursed by persistent rain
They would get the arse sued out of them for the debt. The bill becomes a debt and the water companies do chase debt. Here comes the sheriffs.

Most people have cars or houses the money is recoverable. Those that don't, well you're paying their bill for them. Nice.

If it had been in Surrey it would have been a national emergency......

Nothing like uniting the country.

Fair point.

I note that all the claims of slashed services made by JC in the same piece have been checked out as reliable by the BBC "Reality Check" service.

It gets better. The tories have abandoned the north to flooding.

It seems the great JC has forgotten the winter of 2013/14 when parts of Surrey were flooded for over a month. National emergency declared or asked for? Nope.

The Thames burst its banks in 2014/15 and flooded parts of Surrey and Berkshire for a week. National emergency declared or asked for? No.

Somerset spent most of the winter of 2014/15 underwater, with several villages ci off for over a month. National emergency? No. However two country councils did declare a major incident.

Now Corbyn could have taken a balanced view and argued the Tories have form in not declaring a national emergency in Surrey, or indeed the Tories (and Lib Dems) had abandoned the South to flooding, or even just left it at the National Emergency point but no. The great uniter has to play on peoples' prejudices to score some political points.

Other than the obvious point of never letting the facts get in the way of a good story, one wonders if there would be such a clamour if there wasn't an election campaign going on?

There also seems to be no explanation of what is a "national emergency"? There is the Civil Contingencies Act which allows for a unified response for an environmental incident in a place in the UK which is what should be happening here, but perhaps isn't.

However, cast your mind back to September. There was commentary over the Government considering declaring a national emergency over Brexit to force it through. This Act also contains emergency powers in the event of a widespread (national) emergency which would be scary, particularly as there is no Parliament at present or for the next five weeks. Declaration of a national emergency and invocation of these emergency powers would leave Corbyn beyond hysterical.

So it might be a better idea to do something to actually help these people rather than score points with empty invective.

But hey, I guess Corbyn has given up on winning Mole Vallry

Just thought I'd zero in on this as something to bear in mind if (when?) the UK wing of the Republican Party wins the election and sacrifices the future of the masses for the enrichment of the Elite.

Not a pop at you or your post JDawg, just more of a general "FFS" at the whole sorry state of affairs.

Amen to that!!

The whole thing and indeed the shit show over the recent past just demonstrates that, in general, these bufoons are more interested in political point scoring than actually governing. They just can't help themselves. The bar is so low it is an unbelievably poor state of affairs.
