Finally. That 5th wicket partnership was just one shy of our entire first innings total. Pathetic and embarrassing.

One of the great days for English cricket, up there with Gatting and the barmaid, and the players’ wives sitting on Allen Stanford’s lap

164 for 6 all of a sudden. Labuschagne still there though.

Get them out for less than 200 please. Then see if these tailor's dummies can chase down a little over 300. Oink oink flap flap.

Stokes has done very well.

Most of the bowlers have.

Batsmen have badly let them down again here.

Well that's almost the first part of the plan completed. Another wicket and a few less runs would have been better. England just have to get the last four wickets for 50 or so tomorrow and then they'll have plenty of time to knock off the runs needed. Simples. Then by the time Palace have won at OT, England will be well on their way. I'm off to take a few more of those little yellow pills now washed down with a heady mix of rum and cider.

Aggers: This feels like a watershed moment. It feels like a complete let down. It can't carry on like this.

He was almost sucking Root’s cock in an interview this week

Of course by now, Haseeb Hameed should have been an automatic choice, in the England
team, having averaged 44 in his first 3 Tests in India in the winter of 2016, at the age of 19. He was actually dubbed the 'Baby Boycott'.
Now, 3 seasons on, where he scored ONE century for Lancashire, in that time, they have released him.
Just another depressing backdrop, on a depressing day for England cricket.

Such a shame. A young talent who has yet to have his first class game ruined by white ball slogging. Fingers crossed he can start afresh at a new county and get back into the England set up.

We are slowly destroying Joe Root. Batting at 3, because no-one else can bat there, when his best and favoured position is 4. Burden of captaincy is slowly grinding him down; he is even dropping straightforward catches and I'm sure it is down to pressure, which further affects his decision-making. Added to that he is is not the best tactician around.

Who should be captain? Don't know. Ben Stokes is an obvious choice, but that just transfers the pressure to him, like Ian Botham before him. Jonny Bairstow? Is his place secure? It's a real conundrum. We need a Mike Brearley, but we are fresh out of those. Bish bash bosh cricket simply doesn't encourage them.

We don't have anyone who stands out in the captains role. Strauss was obvious. Cook was obvious. I was never sure about Root but who else is there? I think Burns could be a future captain, but there's no one ready now. Stokes would be a disaster like Flintoff.

What about Burns ? Not established at Test level but doing better than most (not hard TBF) and captained Surrey to the County C'Ship, last season.

Anyone done the Bald Men/Comb cliche yet? Ok I’ll do it.
But all test match cricket feels like that these days. Apart from England and Aus, the rest of the world turns for up Tests dressed as plastic seats.

Ashes 2019

Make Burns captain.
Joe Denly - play a few attractive shots get into double figures- get out- rinse and repeat.
Labuschagne - it took him half a season with Glamorgan to work out his game in English conditions- why can’t our batsman?

TBF Denly is ahead of the curve. Everyone get to 30 and no team in the world can stare down 300 at the moment. Seems to be the Aussie approach.
