referendum is in no way legally binding. it would be suicidal but government could ignore it. Boris seems to be wanting to kick it into the long grass for now but EU want it over and done with.

Different ball game this time. If the referendum does happen I can see immigration being quite a divisive element this time around if England are limiting their intake.

There is also talk that if Scotland want back into the EU, they will be forced to join the monetary union too. Massive game changer.
The drop in the oil price also makes the economic argument even harder

If Scotland did leave the UK would they then need to re-apply for EU membership? If so could that leave them being in neither the UK or the EU for a few years?

Yep. All the same old arguments still apply as last time.

Although going forward, who knows if an EU will still be around to join......

Sturgeon and Adams are just sabre rattling. It's acceptable bigotry from nationalists. As if Scotland would rejoin the EU and lose the - it's nothing more than an opportunity to get another referendum. Although that carrot will be dangled in front of the bloodthirsty Scots who have found something else they disagree with the English on.. (by a few %).

Referendums cause nothing but division, this has been proven. And neither would have one if they didn't think they could take advantage of a situation. Troubles in NI would start all over again, but they don't care too much about that do they? It's good for business.

Yes. I'm cynical.

Apparently, the last referendum the vote was taken on the basis that Scotland would be staying in the EU along with the rest of the UK. Yesterday's result now change this. Local canvassing suggests that they will now vote to leave the UK to stay in the EU

Erm they cn have a referendum but without the OK from the parliament of the united kingdom they can not leave the UK because of the Act of the Union. So Cranky woman needs to go to Parliament and ask this permission and there is no way in a million years that will b granted at the minute.

How ironic you use the word bigotry.

But actually seeing as you have used it maybe explain where that bigotry is ?

how is it any different to what UKIP and a lot of the Vote Leave campaigning has been doing, Leavers wanted freedom and sovereignty from Brussels, Vote leave is getting that, why should Scottish people, Irish people and Welsh people be denied of that same opportunity for sovereignty from London?

Adams is every much a bigot that Farage is. They play the same tune. I doubt Sturgeon genuinely is, but she'll play to it, to get what she wants.

And on a day like today we don't really need more divisive words from people in power to cause more division. But they just cant help themselves.

The Welsh voted to leave the EU.

The Scottish had their chance. And chose to stay within the UK.

Northern Ireland, I will give you that. But do you honestly think that Dublin even wants the North? Seriously? And that the North would vote to leave the UK?

I appreciate that your world is collapsing around you but come on, you are meant to be a bright (cis) lad. Think these things through a bit more.

The irony is jaw dropping.

How dare the UK force a country out of the EU against its will and then refuse to allow that country a say on self determination.

That is exactly my point.

Farage is 'vile', Adams & Sturgeons are 'heroes'. All three are wolves in sheeps clothing.

So basically you have used the word bigotry to describe Sturgeon and have nothing to back it up and clearly you did not hear what she said.

You are spouting total nonsense, and being a bigot while doing so. Oh the irony.

Nicola Sturgeon is exploiting a situation. Problem being, its not clear she will get a mandate for a new referendum, let alone one with any more chance of success as the last....
